The Whitney Portal campground was nice and clean with level sites. The only downside was that it was about a 20 minute walk from the Whitney Portal Store and restaurant.

Beautiful location and great clean, well kept campsites. The campground hosts were really helpful and friendly too. I had the best stay here and would definitely like to return. One really wild thing happened though - a bear opened my car door and had a look inside! I didn't have any food inside the car but it must have still been curious, and left a few paw prints on my seat and interior. Fortunately it did not cause any damage, but it's a good reminder to use the food storage lockers at each campsite (I used them). Great experience overall and I'm so appreciative of this campground.

Lovely environment. Clean campsites. Most all campers respect lights out at night.

Fantastic campground, location and Host Bob and his wife are the very best!

The picture just looked rocky, but I'd found a great video that showed the actual site and it was great. One large and one medium sized tent sites, away from the table and firepit. Not our first time at the campground, so beautiful as ever. While site 9 is great, it's not quite as private as a site we'd previously had. You can hear the creek well enough, but not as dominant a sound as some of the other creekside sites. Bathroom looks close on the map, but there is no direct path there and it's an uphill trek coming back from it.

Probably my favorite campsite in socal. Neighboring spots were on a separate level giving it a slightly more private feel. Plenty of shade. Camp host was so lovely. Bathrooms clean. Grounds, quiet. Misquotes were out during sundown but otherwise fine. Spot only fits two cars, but overflow parking is a short walk.We acclimated here before doing Whitney as a day hike. Bumping into plenty of other folks doing the same thing, able to share tips and timelines.Portal store sells burgers, snacks, hot chocolate, etc. until 7 PM. Overall, I couldnt ask for a better base camp for Mt. Whitney. Easy 25 minute drive down the mountain back to lone Pine as well.I never leave reviews, but this one was worth it.

This is one of the most beautiful campgrounds Ive ever been too. Camp host Bob keeps bathrooms and grounds very clean . But getting up there pulling my camper was the steepest road Ive ever had to tow up. And coming down was a little scary. Very steep grade.

Nice spot. No cell coverage. Had a grill and fire ring!! Mosquitos were terrible. The walk to the bathroom is short. There are no showers available. Portal store stops serving food 1 hour before close.
@MarkS8760847 · Camped on Jun 23, 2025
Sites are reasonably spaced. Plenty of trees.
@ScottM5484435 · Camped on Jun 22, 2025
Camp host is excellent. Loud music at any hour should not be allowed. Dogs off leash is an issue requiring attention as well. Thank you!

Clean bathrooms, no bears in camp this time. :-)

A great campground with nicely spaced campsites. A stream runs through the center of the campground, so with snowmelt, it can add a peaceful ambiance. Clean bathroom facilities and freshwater spigots. No cell service.

The site was mostly level and had great morning to noon shade. It was close to a single vault toilet. The parking space is limited. Two cars would be problematic.

Stayed here the night before our Whitney attempt to help acclimate. Stayed in the group sites for the first time- highly recommend! Nice spaced out area, near the creek. Only thing is mosquitos abound! Also, two of the spigots nearest us didnt have water, but the bathroom one did. Staff are always friendly and helpful. No complaints at all!

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
