Very clean campsite, bathrooms, and helpful staff. The site was next to the stream to dip our feet and sited mother bear and her cub. Huge pancake, five pieces of bacon and three eggs at Portal Store..

Inyo NF has some of the most well-run campsites I have experienced in recent memory. The check in and check out process is smooth, the rangers take good attention to the covid situation. This campsite is at high elevation and sits far above any other campsite in the Mt Whitney / Alabama Hills / Lone Pine area. This is huge plus since the temperature is very nice, even chilly at night, and away from the 80F-100F temperatures at lower elevations. This campground has drinking water, clean restrooms, fire pits, picnic tables, and enough campsite space for 2 5-person tents. Loved loved this place! Perfect for Mt Whitney day hike since it's so close to Mt Whitney trailhead. Be aware of bears though, there was a sighting the night before by our camp neighbors, and again following night. A standout point is how clean and *safe* the vault toilets felt!
