Isolated little champ campground that is well maintained. Always a pleasure to stay here. Close to town (Lone Pine) plus easy access to the Mt Whitney Portal Road.

Lone Pine campground is very pretty and peaceful. It has a great view of the mountain range behind camp. The creek is nice to hear and go in sometimes. It gets really hot during the middle of the day and the sun sets early due to the tall mountains. It can get very windy since the campground is located in a ravine and the temperature is around 6 degrees fahrenheit cooler than at town below. Even though there are vault toilets they did not stink at all while we were there. Be careful to not get bitten by fire ants because they are all over the place. If you go to Lone Pine campground make sure to check the weather before and while you are there because it can change very quickly. It was extremely hot and dry the first few days we were there and there was a giant electrical storm on the last night we could be there. The campground got evacuated around 2AM in the morning because a lightning bolt struck some brush and started a wildfire very close to the campground. The only complaints I would have about the how campground itself is are that the roads/pads seriously need work done on them because there are cracks and potholes everywhere, and that there are small peices of trash scattered across the ground throughout the campground and a little bit in the creek. Besides these downsides the camp is taken care of well. All in all Lone Pine Campground is a nice place that we would go camping at again someday.
