Site in the woods, close to trail, quiet campsite.

Overall, the campsite, office admin, and property were excellent. Interaction with campground host was unsatisfactory with disregard to our property and guy lines for the tent and flies. He did not identify himself and approached as a potentially inebriated camper as well as did not respond to our warnings about the guy lines. He muttered concerns about our tiki torches without explanation. We understood the risk and extinguished them in a timely manner despite the lack of explanation on the specific regulation of the campground which was not found on the hand out or through subsequent search online.

the campground host brought us bear cannisters in his golf cart. Very helpful. We came on Indian Trails with our bicycles and then took Link/BATA bus to get to the campground. All very good--but no car to store food, so cannisters were helpful.

Staff was very courteous and welcoming. Loved our campsite location with easy access to trail. Quiet at night and early morning made for great sleeping. Wood available on site made it easy to have fire going whenever needed. Restrooms clean

Beautiful campground with stunning Lake Michigan frontage. Sites are well sized, and toilet houses are the best I have experienced in Michigan. I will return!

I always arrive after the Rangers go home for the evening so I use recreation.gov to claim my site. It is easily accomplished by looking at the list of sites that are available and choosing one. I like the fact that you can enter a passcode number for the discount.

Quiet, clean, and no light pollution! I have camped at this campground multiple times because it is just that good! My favorite feature has to be it's proximity to the lake! You can hear the waves from your campsite! I loved walking to the shore to see to watch the sunset and stargaze!

This was my fourth year in a row, camping at D H Day Campground early in the season, (end of May to early June). I cant say enough about how amazing this park is and how much this wonderful campground fits my camping style. (Micro camper in my mini van with a Jackery Battery for power generation, and a pop up shower tent for dressing) Of course, each year has been different based on the weather. This year it was cold and rainy so the good news is: no ticks, mosquitoes, biting beach flys and minimal gnats because of the wind. The rain was mostly at night, so the beach climb was easier to do because the sand was wet and compact. If you need a break from the weather, I highly recommend the shopping and exhibits at the visitor center. You could easily spend a couple of hours there. The displays are amazing, very informative, and interesting for all ages.The artwork in the auditorium walls, done by visiting artists, over the years is amazing. My favorite hike, Old Indian Trail, has reopened. But I should not tell you that because one of the things I like about this hike is, that its often a deserted beach and only a few people on the trail.Ive never stayed in this campground during the summer when its perhaps more crowded but my experience has always been that the Pit toilets are always clean and well supplied in the campground, and the campsites are always clean. This year another highlight was meeting the camp host Larry. Hes super helpful and friendly. Im pretty sure because of budget cuts, it will be harder to keep the campground in such good shape, but it sounds like a camp host like Larry is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty, even though hes a volunteer. And hopefully visitors will do their part by not leaving trash on the site.Enjoy!Mary

This campground is great for those who want to bring their dogs camping. The beach you can walk to from the park is dog friendly. They are serious about the 20 ft limit for campers/vehicles, the sites are nice but some of the entrances seem tight. Close to Glen arbor restaurants & gas, close to dune climb and other trails. Would stay again for sure!

We have been camping here for 43 years. The campground is always clean and well kept and generally quiet. We went over to Glen Haven to watch the Aurora., great viewing spot. I wish the campground would offer some sites that are first come first severed. Also that if you dont arrive or contact the park by a certain time of day you forfeit your site. There are always sites that are not occupied but are reserved. Many other campgrounds do both of those things.

We had a nice off season stay at this National Campground. The campground has some sites big enough for an RV, and a majority of tent sites. We enjoyed the access to the lake. There are walking trails and bike riding trails as part of the Sleeping Bearr heritage trail

First of all, while D.H. Day has more than 80 campsites, it is, even when full, very quiet. Second of all, the staff there is amazing: friendly, patient, and very knowledgeable. And lastly, it's Lake Michigan!

Stargaze at the beach!! Bring water shoes for beach walks. The heritage bike trail is outstanding! Don't miss the Leelanau Coffee Roasting Company in Glen Arbor for coffee and unique pastries, and The Grocer's Daughter in Empire for amazing chocolate creations. The shoulder seasons aren't nearly as crowded as the summer season. Learn what poison ivy looks like if camping at the wonderful D H Day Campground - I saw many people wading through it to gather kindling. If you enjoy music, don't miss The Music Museum northeast of Traverse City. I regretted staying only a week because there is so much to do and see in that area - plan on 2 weeks if you can. Love, love, love Sleeping Bear Dunes and my unique 3-level campsite #22! I'll be back.

DHDay is the highlight of my vacationing experience. I live close by and come toCamp 3-4 times a season. I absolutely love the sweet and friendly people that work here. I was so sad to hear that one of my favs had t come back, and she was replaced with a very negative worker. He does not make me feel welcome when I arrive. It's a blemish on the DHDay time. Campers are always lovely and all is fabulous. Maybe this man needs some help with his problems so he can be nice. I waited to write this, but in my continuing visits he remains sullen. Thanks for all the great stuff. Also, your hosts are the best.

The sites do have some privacy and are larger. It was just as described. I liked its remoteness. But the roadways are pretty narrow, as are the site driveways, and the gravel road kicks up a huge cloud of dust every time a vehicle passes even at a slow speed. That made it difficult to keep our camper windows open. Firewood was well stocked.

Sleeping Bear Dunes has great hiking trails throughout. We have several favorite beaches there--try them all. Save a few hours for wandering through the shops and restaurants in Glen Arbor. Unfortunately, some of our campground neighbors arrived in the middle of the night with a very noisy RV and couldn't figure out how to back it into their site so they came up into our site and walked around, flashlight in hand. Kept us awake for quite some time. This was our only complaint about our experience.

We really enjoyed our stay at D.H. Day campground. The proximity to biking and hiking trails was awesome, and we enjoyed visiting the nearby beaches and sand dunes. The site is located near the middle of the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, so there are plenty of options for biking. Our site was in the middle of a loop and somewhat close to neighbours so having a net tent with side covers was helpful for privacy. The toilets in the campground are all composting with lots of flies, which you dont really get used to, and in our location we could smell the toilets depending on the prevailing wind.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
