South Abutment Rec Area, MS - Latest Reviews, Photos & Campground Map

South Abutment Rec Area in Tate County is located 33 min southwest of Southaven, MS with an elevation of 266 feet. There are a total of 75 campsites. The campground is open all year. Sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 28 and 85 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. All sites have electric and water hookups. Prices start at $24.00 per night. Some amenities include shower. Activities include biking, boating, fishing, hiking trails, floating sports.

Arkabutla Lake will be experiencing substantially lower water levels for an extended period of time. Long-term repairs to Arkbabutla Dam must be completed before water levels can return to normal. This affects boating access and water-based activities on the lake. Many boat ramps are currently closed with Hwy. 51 Landing being the only open ramp. We arrived no one to greet us. Also couldnt get ahold of any staff the entire time we stayed. Power went out and was out for four days. Along with power outages there was no water even after the power came back. Had to leave the campground early.

When we got there the bathrooms were horrible. They were filthy. They came and cleaned them then the electricity and water went off. Bathrooms were filthy again. They keep saying it would be back on never came on. We finally left on the 26th. We had 4 grandkids with us so it was a challenge staying in a rv with no water or electricity didn't want the food we had brought to go bad so just packed up and went home.

Totally diamond in the rough. Great campsite/campground. Easily located as sites are all marked well. Paved site with table and BBQ, good access to hookups. Soooo quiet for our 4 days there, it was great.

It was good until we lost power at around 7:00 - 8 on sat night. Then could not drain out at site Sunday morning. Still had no power.

Being harassed by "monk" and "cody" f I r misuse of disability sight . Even after I showed them my disability paperwork Jamie hissong allowed them to harrass me and allow the volunteer to get away with letting vicious pit bull dog to run loose , while she watched this dog harrass other people , she threatened me about my registered service animal sitting by my side not being on a leash. I reported this to Jackson several times with no results. So they started harassing me more. But no repercussions from their boss I say to disabled people to avoid arkabutla because its run by bigots. Jamie should be ashamed of her actions after being married to Tommy

I love that they keep their grass cut and its clean unlike Sardis(Oak Grove). Bathrooms could be updated but they are clean.The pads are updated and very nice and no problem with electrical hookups. Sad to see that the lake is drained, so there is no boating, fishing or any other activities though for years to come. Praying they dont close the camping areas because its a very clean relaxing place to camp.

Until they fire Jamie Hissong and all her understaff I wouldn't recommend any disabled person to cone to arkabutla. Jamie's staff , monk, Cody and others have harassed me by even saying I use a fake disability card for discounts. .. But my card was signed by ne and I showed them my paperwork. I would rather be working. Being disabled is not a choice Jamie Tommy can tell you that

Site 21 is lakeside, and although the water is low, it is a beautiful and spacious site. Very level, clean bathrooms with hot showers and excellent AT&T service.

Hardly any water in the lake, due to spillway needing repairs. Shower houses need so much work/repairs . And they never have heat on in winter time anymore.

We love this campground, but the water is horrible, its full of rust. Our dogs wouldnt even drink it.

It seemed like a nice campground, in its day. I paid $24 but there was no restroom, no water, I assume no electricity, not even a place to dump trash. And dry camping is fine but not for $24.

The campground is actually very nicehoweverthere appears to be no regular staff or host who is taking care of the campground on a daily (or weekly) basis. Bathrooms are old and not cleaned on a daily basis. Sites are not cleaned and there was lots of deadfall and storm fall branches. Several of the sites look like they are being lived on permanently, which is in violation of the 14 day rule and lends a dumpy air to the campground.

I love it there. Very peaceful and always has a breeze. The grass is kept cut and it has updated electrical and sewer hookups. Large and handicap pads. The only downsides are the restrooms could be updated and of course there is no fishing right now as they are still working on the dam

As a disabled person the ranger are very prejudice and violated my ADA and civil rights, and allow their friends to let viscous pitbull dogs rule loose off and don't abide by the visious dog and leash laws.... !!!!!! I tried to call Jackson main office but got no where.......

Upon arriving, there was no host to get any information from. Once you come in, there's only one sign that tells you which campsites are in which direction. Once you get down to the area, there are no more signs telling you where to go for whatever campsite you have. The roads are a bit narrow and could use some work. There are lots of bumps and cracks on the roads. The original campsite that I had reserved was not going to fit us, it was to small and I'm guessing the water pipe has a leak because there was a decent sized muddy puddle around it, so I had to switch campsites. Some sites are level, and others need some work. Pretty campground. Most of the campsites I've seen so far have water, electric and sewage, which is really nice! The bathrooms were pretty dirty when I walked in them earlier, not something I plan to use. I do understand trying to get yard work done early, however, weed eating next to my camper at 7:15 in the morning just was not okay. The water is extremely low, so there is no way to get to it from what I can tell. After doing some research, the Arkabulta dam needs repairs done, so they lowered the water to relieve some of the stress on the dam. It will take years for the repairs to be done, so I'm assuming that means no water during that time. Just a heads up for those who like to fish and those of us who like water activities. I've seen a lot of random vehicles coming through the campground. I'm not sure why, but it def gives me an uneasy feeling.
