A beautiful forested campground within walking distance of Dillon Reservoir.

Heaton Bay is always clean and ready for your arrival at the reserved campsites. The grounds are clean and well maintained, and bathroom vault facilities are fine. The campground is an easy place to stop and enjoy camping with nearby access to town and groceries and amenities. I have never had issues with the campsite being loud or disruptive and have had peaceful nights while camping here.

A very nice campground walking distance to the lake. Some sites are more forested than others. Large tent pads. When booking, check distance to the bathrooms. It was windy at night but my site was nestled in the trees enough that I wasn't worried about my tent. The RV's seemed mindful of the curfew, I didn't hear generators at night. Firewood is pricey from the host but Safeway in town had it for about half price. Plenty of places to pick up provisions in nearby Frisco and Silverthorn, including an REI.Will return.

This campground is great with some sites right on the water. Easy to bring your paddleboard along and go out on the water right from your site.

Some sites have very little space to disconnect/connect trailers and ours was only 20.

Clean bathrooms, nice campsites, and the lake is great!
@TylerS9906995 · Camped on Jun 27, 2025 at Campsite #D45
Great campground, however, our site (D45) was very dusty and was not close to where we could park our car, so hauling all of our gear to the site was unpleasant. Weve been here in the past and loved it. Most of the other site are much more conveniently located in relation to their respective Peking spots and nowhere near as dusty.

I love Heaton Bay Campground. We go every year. The hosts keep that place very clean.I wish it had showers & RV dump at the site.

We couldnt use this campsite. It said it would fit a 40 RV so we figured our truck camper would be an easy fit. Nope. It was a regular sized parking spot and walk in campsite. Please update your descriptions. I still dont know if were getting a refund. This is BS.

We love Heaton Bay. Close to the water and protected from the wind when in between the islands on the water. The campground was clean and quiet. The restrooms cleaned daily and not stinky for pit toilets.

The tent sites were very nice. Well spaced with privacy and room to move. Great presence of camp hoststhey were friendly and welcoming and seemed to be on top of happenings at the sites.

We have been going to Heaton Bay for many years. We love it.

Absolutely gorgeous area. The site included a picnic table, bear box for storage (large) fire pit/grill, and a flat area for the tent. T01 had private water access which was great for paddle boarding! However, this specific site also seemed "open" and not as private as other options, as the picnic table and fire area were right next to the parking lot and vault toilets. People had to walk by the campsite several times. The campsite itself is near some gorgeous trails (Old Dillon Reservoir Loop is a 15 min walk away) and a 10 min drive away from town. Would stay here again.

Site # 16 has a very broken down picnic table on the site. Almost unusable. Does have nice access to lake Dillon.

We stayed at campsite 63 on Loop E. While our campsite didnt have a mountain view most on the loop do. Water was within close walking distance. The bathrooms were a little far, but they were well maintained. The campsite was good, not too close to the campsites beside it. It had shade in the evening. Most of the campsites on Loop E are exposed, so I would suggest a covering for shade. Lots of hiking potential around. We drove to the Sapphire Loop, Old Dillon Reservoir, and to a hike at Boulder Lake. Paddleboarding and biking were also very popular, you could walk about a quarter mile and launch your paddleboard.

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
