Loved to see the trees growing. We had complete privacy at our site.

We have been camping at Heaton Bay for many years but this year we found water was not available to fill our RV and there was no info posted to let us know where to fill.

If you are a cyclist, you could not ask for a better location to access the network of bike paths that go to Vail, Breckinridge, Keystone, and around Lake Dillon. If not, youd still enjoy this beautiful campground. The drawbacks are pit toilets and no showers, and the campground has no dump station. Even using your own campers facilities, a long stay could be a problem if you fill up your waste tanks. The pit toilets are kept in an immaculate condition with no odors, so thats not too bad, but Id say the lack of a dump station is a big drawback.

Our favorite place

We stayed in site E61. It is one of the most private site in E-Loop. While not very wide, it was more than long enough for our 24-foot rig. A foot path goes through the site. The downside is that people walk through this site. The upside is that the path leads about .2 of a mile to a beach. Turning to the left at the beach and continuing to your left along the water, you will eventually walk past the osprey and heron nests.

We had a great time at Heaton Bay campground, it is beautiful there right on the lake and we had a great time in the lake with our kayaks and riding the bike trail on our bikes, it is a really special place. The campground is very well taken care of and the restrooms are nice and clean! Weve stayed here multiple times and well definitely be back.

The sites are large and scenic. Ours was not very level, but used a lot of levelers to fix that issue. the bathrooms were exceptionally clean and unsmelly. It was great having the bike path next to the campground. Our only complaint is too many barking dogs - very inconvenient when trying to nap or read.

I accidentally booked 1 night instead of 2 and the host worked with us to move to a spot where we would not have to move after the first night, very helpful. Would be nice if generator hours were shorter similar to those in national parks where you can only run them a couple hours at lunch and supper. The camp next door had a loud generator running for hours, not what I want to listen to while camping.
