Hellgate Campground, MT - Latest Reviews, Photos & Campground Map
Hellgate Campground in Lewis and Clark County is located 39 min east of Helena, MT with an elevation of 3,838 feet. There are a total of 72 campsites. The campground is normally open from the beginning of May to mid September. Sites can accommodate RVs between 20 and 120 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. 2 sites have electric hookups. Fees range from $10.00 to $170.00. Some amenities include boat ramp, swimming, flush toilets. Activities include boating, fishing, floating sports.
Some sites are temporarily closed due to our shoreline restoration project. As soon as work is completed, the sites will reopen.

If a storm is coming across the lake, prepare for high winds. Very suddenly a wind storm and rain came across the lake and even with all our efforts, ripped our awning on the RV.

Gosh it was beautiful! Be aware of wind if you're setting up a tent (and bring extra padding to cushion the gravel, thankfully we were prepared). Clean restrooms, amazing views. Would certainly come through again.

The campground and facilities are very nice and clean. Out only problem came at the end of the stay. Checkout time is to be at 4:00 and check in at 5:00. We barely got out of our spot at 4:00 and someone was backing in. They just about ran over my granddaughter while they were backing in very fast. This is the 2nd year that this has happened to us. Last year there was someone sitting there waiting already at 2:30, It kind of wrecked the whole experience.

excellent campground - so many sites have lakefront access + beautiful sunsets! the rattlesnake pit is a bit intimidating but a decent solution to keep them away from campers.

Beautiful place off the paved road quite a ways. The gravel road was good, though. We had a little washboard. Our site was level. The sunrise was amazing. Electricity & a dump station would make this place perfect, but we would stay again even without it.

Had a wonderful 4 days, campground host was very outgoing and hospitable, campground was clean and orderly only downside was the large pile of boulders, But no biggie

Campsite 18 is a great pull thru beachfront site. Upon arrival I was greeted by a bull snake at the site. Glad to see it first, having a small pet with me. The camp host is always making rounds and gladly aided in moving the snake along at the time. The site is located close to the restroom and its kept clean & tidy every time Ive camped here. Less people camping during the work week days so it was semi empty and peaceful, despite the hail storm lol. This site also provides shade just a bit sooner than other sites with the mature trees lining the shore. So far my favorite lakeside campsite at Canyon Ferry.

Reserving a campground over the internet is always a hassle. You can't see the site before you buy it. Camping isn'tfun anymore. it's become mechanized and noisy. There is always that guy that has to run a generator down to the verylast second of 10pm. This made our visit unpleasant.
