The campground is very close to Grant Grove Village which is convenient. But the layout of the sites are very close to one another. There's no privacy from other campers.

Great location, campsite was nice, lots of space for tent. We loved how we had enough space and our neighbors werent too close to us. Bathrooms were clean! Overall, great campground

This was an excellent spot that is very large and away from most other campers. We visited with a 30' trailer which fit nicely at this almost level site. We ran a generator but were able to put it about 70' away closer to the main road so as not to disturb anyone else; we could barely hear it while running. The campsite backs up to the main road but there is almost no road noise. It also backs up to the trails that go to the General Grant tree and to the Big Stump. Campground is huge but bathrooms are sparse, but still just a minute walk away, if needed. We visited in August after kiddies back in school, so no crowds at all. Also, if needed, you can get propane refills at the Hume Lake store about 15 min. away. Overall, great trip and we'll return in the future.

Beautiful campground, lots of up and down hills. Beautiful trees provide lots of shade. Very clean.

#7 is close to the entrance and the bathroom. Although our neighbors' tents seem to be quite close to us, I think it is the same throughout the Sunset campground. We enjoyed our stay! Will definitely come back again.

Amazing view during sunset hours and very close to water and restroom. The only con i would say is the privacy. A little close to 52, but our group booked both sites which worked out for us.

The campground was great. The workers were also good. However, our neighbors were very noisy after quiet hours. Getting a worker to patrol the campsites during those hours would have greatly helped.

Such a good site. Close to the restroom and water. I had such a great time. Beautiful site to stargaze and watch the sunset! Will come back here again.

Campground is really wonderful. We had site #50 which had an amazing view, especially for sunsets, and privacy, though not very level for tent camping and the parking spot is shared with site #49 so our cars were kind of on top of each other. Highly recommend visiting the giant sequoias near Sunset Campground versus going all the way to see General Sherman as they're equally spectacular and giant, much easier to get to and not inundated with tourists. Also Hume Lake was a fantastic and worthwhile day trip especially for young kids. They could safely swim and play in the water at the sandy shore area.

Campsites at Sunset can vary wildly. One thing they typically have in common is sloping tent sites. We were able to barely fit our tent in the flattest area we could find above our fire ring. However, it was in full sun so if you are camping at this site in the summer, be prepared to be hot. The sunset views are quite good, but the views are blocked somewhat by trees, which didn't bother us. What did bother us was the swarm of yellow jackets that dominated our site from dawn to dusk. We couldn't figure out whether there was a nest nearby because other sites did not seem to have a problem. Another thing that bothered us about the campground was how full the dumpsters were. They were overflowing and never did we see services come to empty the bins during our 3 days there. If you wanted the views, I'd recommend Site 103 over 102, which was higher up on the hill, seemed to have a flat site, and potentially fewer yellowjackets.

My campsite was great--large with few neighbors.But I'm hesitant to return to Sunset. The campground is high density. Most campsites are small and very close to others.The only good aspect of that is there were very few RVs so it looked and felt like an campground rather than an RV park.Also, having a sunset view campsite means many people will walk through your site about sundown.The campground was surprisingly quiet at night. I don't know if that is a characteristic or just luck on my part.

Beautiful clean campgrounds and bathrooms

overall great site! very close to i think 78 (cars park in a double spot together) so youll probably get to know your neighbors so keep that in mind. much better than 105 though which was so bad we booked and moved to this one. good tree cover and spot for tent

this site is SO small and honestly nonexistent with 5 other sites next to it that all basically coincide. since we were the last ones to arrive of the 4 nearby sites we had little space and anyone even talking quietly across any campsite projected to all other sites since it is a quiet side of the camp (but ends up not being). would definitely book a different site number, or hopefully you get lucky and the other ones nearby arent booked (doubtful). we ended up going to the lodge to get service and booking the last available site so we could move.

Great spot! No wildlife spotting, other than wasps that came for any food. The sunrise and sunset through the trees was fantastic. Neighboring sites had 5+ cars parked, doesnt seem to be heavily monitored by rangers so just a heads up. Water spigot at the site next to this one, so nearby water with ashes dump, dumpster, bathrooms, and grey water drain just a short 90 second walk away.

My absolute favorite campground in the park. Easy access to trails nearby. It tends to be quiet and other campers are respectful. No bad experiences here I love it! Sunsets are epic, everyone walks over to the side of the campground to watch it in full.
@MelissaS832578 · Camped on Aug 7, 2025 at Campsite #97
Campsites are crammed together as most national parks do however this one seemed more like a giant group site. Level tenting can be a challenge as most of this campground is on a hillside. Running water in the bathrooms was nice.

See you soon it was wonderful
@KarenT7749653 · Camped on Aug 4, 2025 at Campsite #103
Nice wooded sites, fairly well-spaced for separation. Bathrooms are a bit of a distance. Read the fine print: walk to your site really does mean you have to walk to your camping site from your vehicle, carrying all your gear. Very clean campground.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
