The campground is very close to Grant Grove Village which is convenient. But the layout of the sites are very close to one another. There's no privacy from other campers.

Amazing campground Amazing views bathrooms were clean tables garbage and food storage were very conveniently located around the campsites. Definitely a good experience being able to camp out in the wilderness!.

Overall, the total site is beautiful with the ability to watch the sunset at the mountain's edge. However, the campsites are too close together and the campground is generally too dense. This defeats the goal of being out in nature and experiencing its peace and beauty when people are rolling at 1:30am, setting up their tent til 3am, 2 ft behind your own tent. Not to mention other sites playing music well beyond quiet hours / 10pm. If enforcement of quiet hours was better administered and perhaps park in and out was closed from 12am to 6am, that would go a long way in making the experience better.

A few issues with my recent stay:1) it was by far the rowdiest campsite I've ever been to. Quiet hours were blatantly ignored by many groups, including the group site that was right behind our site - music playing and loud talking well past midnight. That particular group also tied a dog to a tree that barked constantly, including from 3-5am. We talked to the ranger but that didn't seem to do anything. Multiple other groups around our site were very loud past midnight, including leaving bright lights on.2) We counted 13 campsites that had well over the 6 person max. The group next to us had 9, we saw another non-group site that had 17 people! I'll grant that MAYBE they had multiple sites next to each but it didn't look like it by the way the tents were crowded together. 3) there was very little flat ground at campsites, not just ours. We walked around to see the overall grounds and most tents were on some sort of slant. It made for pretty uncomfortable sleeping.I wouldn't return to this campground

Great campground ideally located to visit both Sequoia and Kings Canyon.

Beautiful sunset, but several camping neighbors were very loud past quiet hours

Good location for access to both Sequoia and Kings canyon. A popular camp ground with great sunsets,a nearby shop with amenities and a restaurant and flushing restrooms. Wash sink was at certain restroom facilities but not all.

Group camping at the neighboring site was loud and obnoxious about personal drama throughout the night.

Went to the campground for labor day weekend and the campsite was like the wild west. There were no park rangers after 6pm and people had loud gas generators running past quiet hours. No one was there to enforce anything. Also, the bathrooms were filthy and ran out of toilet paper by Saturday, and were not restocked when we left on Monday.

Beautiful place.

Sunset campground was so beautiful, we were so excited for our stay here! Unfortunately our campsite, near the western ridge, was very close to another campsite. It would have been close quarters normally, but the neighbor was very loud, far past quiet hours, and made aggressive comments toward us throughout the night. There was no camp host to help us, and no one at the park offices or on the phone could give us any support, so we ultimately had to cut our stay short, and we traveled across the country to stay here. I really hope Kings Canyon and Sunset campground can improve so campers arent left without support in situations like these in the future, because it is a really beautiful and special place.

Love this camping spot, the view by the trees is beautiful and enough space to put a hammock there. Very close to the restrooms and pottable water which is nice. Would be perfect but the only spot to place the tent down is a bit at an incline so woke up a few times a night with my face pushed up against the tent. Also the campsite is a bit downhill from where you park your car so a lot of up and down. And lastly there seemed to be a lot of Yellowjackets but not sure if it was just that campsite or all of them. We love this site though and would book it again

Sunset is a beautiful campground located near Grant Grove, offering an easy walk to the village. There are incredible sunset views from a few of the campsites. The best views are from behind campsite 37, so do not reserve that campsite if you have a problem with company around sunset. Be sure to drive into Kings Canyon and over to Giant Forest. There is gas at Hume Lake and Stony Creek. There are no showers within a 45-minute drive, but Sunset does have flush toilets. I would not recommend Sunset for RVs, as there are very few campsites that are long and level. If you must bring such equipment, park in Lodgepole and use the free shuttle to see the trees. We camped in a truck camper.

This was an excellent spot that is very large and away from most other campers. We visited with a 30' trailer which fit nicely at this almost level site. We ran a generator but were able to put it about 70' away closer to the main road so as not to disturb anyone else; we could barely hear it while running. The campsite backs up to the main road but there is almost no road noise. It also backs up to the trails that go to the General Grant tree and to the Big Stump. Campground is huge but bathrooms are sparse, but still just a minute walk away, if needed. We visited in August after kiddies back in school, so no crowds at all. Also, if needed, you can get propane refills at the Hume Lake store about 15 min. away. Overall, great trip and we'll return in the future.

Beautiful campground, lots of up and down hills. Beautiful trees provide lots of shade. Very clean.

#7 is close to the entrance and the bathroom. Although our neighbors' tents seem to be quite close to us, I think it is the same throughout the Sunset campground. We enjoyed our stay! Will definitely come back again.

Amazing view during sunset hours and very close to water and restroom. The only con i would say is the privacy. A little close to 52, but our group booked both sites which worked out for us.
@SavannahAC70FB · Camped on Aug 15, 2025 at Campsite #66
The campground was great. The workers were also good. However, our neighbors were very noisy after quiet hours. Getting a worker to patrol the campsites during those hours would have greatly helped.

Such a good site. Close to the restroom and water. I had such a great time. Beautiful site to stargaze and watch the sunset! Will come back here again.

Campground is really wonderful. We had site #50 which had an amazing view, especially for sunsets, and privacy, though not very level for tent camping and the parking spot is shared with site #49 so our cars were kind of on top of each other. Highly recommend visiting the giant sequoias near Sunset Campground versus going all the way to see General Sherman as they're equally spectacular and giant, much easier to get to and not inundated with tourists. Also Hume Lake was a fantastic and worthwhile day trip especially for young kids. They could safely swim and play in the water at the sandy shore area.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
