South Marcum Campground in Franklin County is located 51 min northeast of Carbondale, IL with an elevation of 437 feet. There are a total of 160 campsites including 14 tent-only sites. The campground is normally open from the end of March to mid November. 146 sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 32 and 94 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. 46 sites have electric and water hookups. 100 sites have electric hookups. Fees range from $16.00 to $44.00. Some amenities include shower, drinking water, dump station, playground, restroom, trash dumpster, ramada, flush toilets. Activities include biking, hiking trails.

We always enjoy our time at South Marcum! We have found the perfect camping spot not to far a walk to the shower house and a beautiful view of the water!

South Marcum camp group was very nice. Our site, 61, doesnt have much shade so could be hot in the summer.

This is a beautiful campground, with lake views. The ranger stopped by just after we set up, he was polite and helpful. It was very easy to reserve our site. We have stayed here in the past also. It's quiet and relaxing. The sites are large, with and extra space for parking. The cost was low for this quality campground with full services.

We loved the campground and had such high hopes of enjoying our time there. However, our campsite and the campground were absolutely overrun with TICKS! Both of our pups are on strong anti flea/tick meds but they were literally covered in ticks every time they went outside. This is not only disgusting, but also dangerous to both animals and humans. A little grass maintenance would go a long way in helping this. There is so much potential at this beautiful park, but the tick problem is a no go for us.

From the minute we pulled our camper in the guard followed us around the entire time to tell us the rules then blocked my daughter in at the parking lot at the bathrooms and wouldnt get out to tell her why she was blocked in. She couldnt back out and she had just dropped her Grandma off at the bathroom. Then I asked him why he had her blocked in and he said to tell her she went down a one way then I took my grandkids to the park and parked his truck walked over and scared the kids to tell me the rules of the campground and that my car tire was in the grass then told me no golf carts. I was going to have an 80th bday for my dad with a lot of elderly people and he said well they will have to walk. Then went back to our campsite to tell my husband more rules. So we went home and came back and took our camper somewhere else and we will never camp at rend lake again!

Great park to camp, sites are big and level, bathrooms are clean.There's an eagle nest by the tent camping area, you can watch the parents feeding the chicks.Quiet and relaxing, beautiful!!I never have seen so many birds in one place!!

Nice campgrounds, the shower houses have been really nice, but I think it's time they could use some repairs like scraping some bad spots that are flaking, replaster and repaint. The floors could use a pressure wash. There are some fire pits needing replaced. Also some concrete picnic tables are nearing there life expectation and new metal ones would be nice! Keep maintaining a nice campground, we love it! Thanks
