This is a very nice campground and is large enough for big rigs. You need to watch carefully when making your reservations for the proper length and slope. Attendants are always very friendly and helpful.

Very nice and well maintained campground. Hard to get a site with full hookups on a weekend. So you are forced to leave on the weekend and stay only 5 week days. Lot of small towns with Town squares, neat restaurants, antiques, bike paths, fishing and animal watching.

We love South Marcum & stayed for 2 weeks...nice site, could use more shade but the only major thing we had a problem with was the grass. It needed mowed bad. They finally mowed a couple days before we left but it really wasn't much of an improvement. It really needs mowed more often or cut shorter, otherwise we had a nice stay.

We chose this location due to its proximity off of Highway 57 in southern Illinois. Its on Rend Lake. We spent the first 10 minutes cleaning up beer bottle tops, glass and snickers wrappers after the previous campers. Site 60 sits on the top of a small bluff over the lake which we could carefully walk down. Looks like an excellent spot to fish and swim. All sites had fire pit, picnic table and cement pad. Our site was level and very large. Not all sites have FHU but ours did. Next time we would try 57/58 (electric) or 79-84 (FHU) depending on the season and whether we need shade. Clean bathrooms. Great sunsets. While walking on the trails we ran into someone with full Halloween decorations at their site. How fun! The nearby town had a cute town square and everything you could possibly need. We have also stayed at Gun Creek on Rend Lake and both are nice. This location has more sites and seems to have more amenities but its further from highway 57. Gun Creek has golfing and restaurant. Its hard to choose!

Excellent site, cost for camping some of the lowest around the midwest, great people running the campground

One of my favorite campgrounds. Campground sites are clean and kept mowed. There are several sites with nice views of the lake. They have a very nice bike/walking trail, which we use about every day while camping. Friendly staff.
