Holly Bay Campground is awesome and Laurel Lake is the most beautiful lake in Kentucky. My family and I have been coming here about every year since 94. This visit was the first one in our 31 years that we were never visited by the campground hosts. Every other visit the hosts would come by a couple times a day to ask if we needed ice or firewood etc. Which is what good hosts do. This year every morning we had to hop in our vehicle and drive to the entrance to get anything. Again, we highly recommend the location but the hospitality has taken a steep dive.

Made my reservation for Holly Bay in February, stayed at Holly Bay for Memorial Day and Forth of July without issue. Showed up for my reservation on Labor Day and was told I was only allowed to have 1 boat trailer per site, which was NOT stated on the website as a restriction. Vista Recreation staff on site was rude about this new enforcement and only offered to sell us another site for us to get a second boat pass. The day before I arrived I received a text from camp staff that stated I check-in time but didnt include the new enforcement of a rule I have yet to find other than on a paper they printed at the entrance shack. I drove over 4 hours without any notice of any rule enforcement changes and was greeted by rude staff. This experience was horrible and USFS needs to seriously reconsider using Vista Recreation as campground hosts. At one point during our terrible check-in we were told by Vista staff that perhaps we needed to go somewhere else. How is this aligned with the USFS motto of Caring for the land and serving the people? Holly Bay used to be such a wonderful campground to stay at prior to the USFS getting low bid contractors to run the sites that dont value the people trying to enjoy nature as intended. I will continue to visit Holly Bay as it holds a special place in my heart and countless memories with my family, but if USFS doesnt get the correct contractors in place I will unfortunately have to look elsewhere for places that better serve the people.

The camp post and all the Maintenance people were some of the nicest folks Ive ever met. They were very accommodating and as far as the campsite goes honestly Ive been camping for 30 years and it was the nicest camp spot that Ive ever been in. We will definitely be back.

H12 in Holly Bay was an amazing and private campsite! We had a wonderful time. Every staff member was extremely polite and helpful! We even had firewood delivered to our site! We also loved how clean the bath houses were, how secluded the sites were and how well the entire campground was set up! Also, the marina was extremely close! This was my favorite campground we've stayed at so far and we will definitely be back for camping and boating at Holly Bay!

Current worker would do allow us to check in an hour early. She told us to go to the public picnic area and wait until 2:00. In the past 40 years this was the first time we were told to wait until 2:00

Camping on any loop D G or H at Holly Bay is not ideal if you take a boat because it is too rocky to park the boat in the water near the campsites. If you park the boat at the boat ramp and want to drive around you are not permitted to park your car in the parking lot without your trailer attached, which makes no sense, meaning you have to pull your trailer from the campsite to the parking lot and back again - having to back the empty trailer into the campsite every time you go from boat to campsite. There should be parking for those who are camping on these loops that wish to leave their boat tied up at the boat ramp since leaving it at the campsite is not possible. Other than that, the site was clean, the restroom was well maintained, and the staff was friendly during interactions. We will go back to Holly Bay but it will not be on one of these loops (G, H, D) .

Sites needed more gravel, sites needed to be trimmed more, some sites needed to be cleaned out because of dead tree's , not a very good look. Also where are you? Park your trailer the overflow that needs to be cleaned out those old picnic tables laying in there gravel thats not being used that should be being used. Park needs to be updated a little bit better. Ive been coming down there for 20 years.

The perfect camping trip. Friendly & helpful staff. Secluded like spaces, easy lake access with 2 marinas in close proximity, Riverboat ride at mouth of the Laurel was relaxing & trip to Cumberland Falls was a bonus!

We love our annual trip to Laurel Lake. The most beautiful lake that remains unchanged since 1st coming in the late 80's. HollyBay campground staff and surroundings were great.

We rented a few different campsites. Each site was clean and spacious. The camp hosts came around with colored chalk for the kids. The kids were delighted.They swam at a nearby beach and some paddle boarded, or kayaked.It was a lovely place to Camp.

The campsite needs more gravel and needs cleaned of weeds. Its apparent the entire campground is not being mowed on a regular basis. We have camped here for years and the upkeep is not the same. Very sad.

This is one of my top favorite places to camp. I come here 3-4 times each year. The sites are private, large and well equipped with a fire pit, picnic table and lantern poles. The bathhouse on the G loop was recently renovated and has a large sink for dishwashing in the womens side. Some of the sites are multi-level with parking above the picnic table area. Check site descriptions if you need a site all on one level.

One of the most beautiful campgrounds weve been to. Very peaceful as well.

I loved this campground. The sites are spaced out enough that your neighbors are not on top of you but close enough not to feel eerily alone. We were able to set up our dome tent and a shelter so plenty of room at sites. Majority of the sites are flat which means worries sleeping on a hill. The bathhouse was close to our site and was well maintained. Stocked and cleaned. The shower house was located in the same building as the bathrooms. Stalls had locked doors plus a bench. The only thing I disliked is no control of the water time and pushing a button literally every 5 seconds (I timed it) for water. I understand it is for conserving water just wished it was longer. We didnt hike any nearby trails but we did swim at the swim beach nearby. We loved it! Best way to cool down on hot days.

Have enjoyed camping at Holly Bay for many years. Its a quiet campground at night, easy access to the water from our site in F. This year, I was highly disappointed in the lack of cleaning of the shower house. Was there for an entire week and it appeared that the shower stalls were never cleaned all week. In years past everything was cleaned thoroughly every day.

Everything was amazing! We pulled up to the office, no problems they knew exactly who we were and were ready for us. They were all friendly and helpful. Spoke to us every time they seen usask about our onions lol. (Inside joke) And a big shoutout to the Holly Bay Marina who we rented a boat from. They were also ready for us and extremely friendly. Will definitely be going bk! Loved it!!!

The stay was good but having to reserve the site was a pain cause all the site get reserved like months ahead from people out of town and it makes it hard on locals that like to go for a weekend between work its about impossible for locals to get a camp site on weekends. They should have rules in place like they use to once your reservation date is here site should have something on it within a few hours or you lose your reservation. While I was there camp site next to me set empty for three days before anyone came to put anything on site thats not far to low income people that try to save up to go camping for a week or even a weekend its getting to where you cant go camping at holy bay cause of that reason an almost has me to the point of wanting to sale my camper cause cant use it anymore. Use to go to holy bay quite often but now its almost impossible to find camp site there hope this letter might open some eyes an change some rules they should only be one or two loops that is reserved the rest should be first come first serve like it use to be an the rules should be like they use to be site has to be occupied within so many hours of your check in time or lose reservation!!!!!!!!

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
