High altitude, mostly open area camping. Somewhat level sites. Windy. Not sure why the area looked like a tornado went through with many trees toppled over. Amenities are fine but note the lake is not immediately adjacent to the campground.

There was a huge blow-down in this area three years ago. Crews finally cleared the road and campground to be able to open this season, but it's treeless and has no privacy. Winds were howling and when we read reviews about how vulnerable tents were in the winds, we went down to La Veta and stayed in a cabin.

Several years ago all of the trees in this campground were blown down in a wind storm. Now it is a big open field with no shade and no privacy. I enjoyed the hiking trail to Bear Lake, but I probably wont come back here.

The campsite was easy to find, and the location is amazing! The fishing at Blue Lake was great. I was not prepared for how windy it could get. We stayed there for two nights, and on both nights, the wind was howling. Easily 30 - 40 mph gusts (maybe more) that shook our tent viciously. The non-stop wind ultimately caused a tear in our tent's body, directly along one of the buckles. I saw another party throw their entire tent in the dumpster the next morning and leave. The wind didn't let up much in the early mornings, and the only calm moments we had were in the afternoon and right after dinnertime. I would recommend coming up in a hard-sided camper or RV. No tents.

We love going up there and have been there 3 times in the past 3 years already.
It's a beautiful setting and we enjoy the wilderness up there every time.
While I get why generators are a thing for people with campers, I don't understand why they are allowed in a campground like this.
The host was one among many who ran their generators, sometimes starting at 6am in the mornings. And again at lunch, and again in the evening.
Not my kinda camping to be honest, but I guess We'll have to just put up with it at this point.

Restrooms were clean and the staff was friendly. However, there was an abandoned camp littered with trash across the road from the campground and the trails have not been maintained. We could only ride about a mile of trails due to trees blocking the trail.

We stayed at site #8 in late September. It was fantastic - access to the creek was directly behind our campsite. The trail along the river takes you to Blue Lake less than a quarter mile, and from there the hike around the loop up to Bear Lake was just wonderful. The whole site was unbelievably clean. The chipmunks, blue jays and camp robbers were a bit too tame, coming right on to the picnic table while we were eating. It was absolutely delightful!

This was an absolutely gorgeous site. Husband, our dog, and I did a little exploring when we got there mid-day and walked the trail around blue & bear lake. If you plan to hike in surrounding areas make sure to check in at the site first! They will give you a pass that waves the parking fees (not sure which fees it waves for). It’s high in the mountain so weather was colder than closest towns temps, but an absolutely beautiful view of the snowy mountains.

Blue Lake campground is small and lovely, lots of trees, , with a creek and the lake close by. Nice easy hiking trail leading to the other close campground, Bear Lake. The road up to the campground is washboard in some places, but basically no problem if you drive slowly. We would like to return here.
We stayed at camp site #8, which is very close to the creek and a path leading to Blue Lake.

We love Blue Lake Campground!!! There are lots of trees. The toilets are well kept. Picnic tables and fire rings are in good shape. This was our second year in a row to camp here. The only negative critique I can offer is that a lot of the places to pitch your tents are not entirely level. We used a little bit larger lot, which had a really good level spot for our tent, but that spot was at least 30- 40 plus yards away from the fire ring, picnic table, and parking spot. While that is great with regards to distancing the tent from where you eat, it is not too convenient when unloading and loading the car. However, I would camp in this spot again given some of the limitations. Overall, it is a great campground, and we will be coming back again soon.

I really like the remoteness of this area, yet wish I could get cellular service (AT&T, where are you?). Hiking the trails or just walking the roads, all great.

A absolutely beautiful location. Spacious sites and beautiful trails. Wish water source was a little closer. The road up to the sites can be treacherous if not prepared.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
