Great experience! Beautiful scenery, friendly camp host, and close proximity to some great rivers and Woodland Park.

Great site! The driveway is indeed rutted so pay attention to the site description. Difficult for non AWD. The campground overall was great. Lots of space between sites, mostly quiet, no highway sounds. One guy was running a generator some, and there were a handful of ATVs rolling through, which are loud. Signs say no ATVs so not sure if it just wasnt being enforced, or what.

A great small campground, quiet except for the yeti or coyotes barking. The scenery is fantastic with all the hoodoos to see. Definitely recommend.

Nice area however the campground is not maintained well. Thankfully I have an SUV but if you have a small car good luck getting into most of the spots as they have huge ruts. I have a small dent now. My campground was not cleaned from the last campers (egg shells and burnt wood in the fire pit and around). Also found burnt corn cobs around the site. I dont know about the others but my campsite also had a huge fly and ant problem. Ive never had it that bad anywhere. Thankfully I had spray. We go camping a lot and I love the woodland park area, but definitely wont be returning here.

Road to the campground felt like you were in a popcorn machine. Roads in the campground were unkept with some having drainage ruts that you could not pass over. Sites were marked with reserved signs that were a week out of date. Our site had a reserved sign with a different name on it for the date we reserved. We would never go back there.

Painted Rocks Aug 20, 2023, Site 007We were unable to stay there because there were deep gullies between the campground road and the sites. It was not possible to back in or go car first with a trailer because of the deep gullies. In addition the camp driveway was lined with tree posts (telephone pole size) so that it was not possible to maneuver a 23 ft RV. We tried to cancel the reservation, but could not, as the web site would not respond to any input with the very poor cell coverage (AT&T). We tried the next day and still could not get anyone or any answers. The access road to the campground (Painted Rocks Rd) was in very poor condition needed to be graded. Overall it was a very poor experience and we could not get a refund.

Great views and set ups with tables and fire pits. Site are narrow, and only 14-18 can handle larger units, dont take large trailers or units through the upper loop. Was so peaceful, will definitely be coming back soon. Some sites are a bit challenging due to the gutter washout from rain, so some have a bit of a large dip from road surface to the site pad.

Nice location, lots of potential. This camp could easily get 5 stars, but it appears to have lacked a lot of attention lately. There are several sites that are inaccessible due to huge ruts where the water has been running and either washed out a culvert or there just wasn't one ever installed. I couldn't have gotten my 2-wheel drive vehicle into site 4. There were other similar sites. So, be aware of that if you don't have a 4 wheel drive. Seemed a little sketchy at times. At one point, some guy not staying at the camp just drove his pickup through and dumped his trash in the dumpster and drove back out. It worked out and the hosts didn't seem to care where I ended up nor check anything. I'm pretty sure I could have just shown up and camped without a reservation or permit and there'd have been no questions asked. I probably won't stay there again, but it'd work in a pinch. I have Google Fi and had 2 bars and data was "ok".

The camp host was hard to find and was not cleaning or restocking the bathrooms. I saw her leave the bathroom with cleaning supplies one day, so I was quite surprised when I went in and there was feces on the toilet seat. Not sure what she did in there?The campsite has been one of our favorites, as it is so beautiful and the rocks are fun for the kids, so we were very disappointed to have this experience.

Camp host didn't check bathrooms often enough and had to be told that there was no toilet paper twice.

We are regulars at Painted Rocks. Good clean campground with friendly camp hosts. I would recommend if you are new to camping or want a nice clean site.

004 is a great site. Neighbors aren’t too close and you get a great view of the hills in the morning. Several flat areas for tents and enough trees for hammocks. Bathroom is easy walking but not too close. Campground was super quiet in the evening, and I was there for 4th of July weekend. You also get free access to Manitou Lake! Will be back for sure

Quiet campground. The water was covered while we were there. Unsure as to why, but be sure to bring water.

Very clean campsite. Not too many people, big sites. Beautiful rock formations, grandkids enjoyed climbing and play games around them. Manitou Lake park nearby, we walked there.

Well maintained smallish campground.

We chose this site because of access to water. The water was NOT on. Very problematic! We will choose another camp ground next time!
@MelanieO184426 · Camped on Sep 5, 2022 at Campsite #7
Road grading and site grading maintenance is poor. It can be quite difficult to get a car into many sites, let alone an RV. They need to work on drainage and install some culverts.

Also, we got dusted by local residents driving down the neighboring county road which was very close.
@BonnieG8236602 · Camped on Aug 14, 2022 at Campsite #16
Some of the campsites were difficult to get into and get level due to all the rain.

Went camping with my grandchildren and we had a great time. Bathrooms and campsite were clean and maintain.
It is a great place for families.

Stayed July 4 weekend. Campsite was busy, but sites are well spaced in the tent loop; the trailer loop seemed a little less spaced. Host Jerry was very friendly and diligent about cleaning. He had cords of firewood for $8. The vaulted toilets were very clean and had toilet paper. Potable water in a few locations. Site 15 is a beautiful spot. Pull-in parking and easy unload at a well-sheltered picnic table. A bank rises up behind table, which makes the site feel very private and also blocks some of the ambient highway noise. The tent platform is off to the right a short distance and is, unfortunately, at the top of the rise. There is a bit of car noise, which I noticed mornings, but there isn't any traffic passing by the site. It overlooks a creek (which you can't access) and meadow with a prairie dog village. They are cute to watch in the mornings with a cup of coffee in hand. The large sandstone outcrops in the campsite are beautiful and some can be climbed. Manitou Lake is a short walk away and has a few different trails to explore including an educational boardwalk through marshland. You can fish and paddle board the lake, but no swimming. Red Rocks Group is also nearby and worth a stop to climb through more red sandstone formations. Woodland Park is only a few miles away and has many dining and shopping options, if you forget ice, camping equipment, or don't feel like cooking. If interested in driving Pike's Peak, be warned you need a timed entry permit and they book out far in advance. Ditto if wish to hit the spa in Manitou Springs; get reservations well ahead. Also be warned the Garden of Gods entrance is under construction and the detours make it a bit confusing to navigate. I drove an EV from Denver with 240 mile charge and had plenty to get back home. I topped up at the Woodland Park Rest Area Chargepoint (very slow Level II, 6.6kw) but found didn't need to do that. No electrical at campsite.

What an excellent, traditional campground, so quaint and quiet. Clean restrooms, spacious sites and a friendly campground host. All campers receive a free pass to Manitou Lake which was a great place to picnic and spend the day with the dogs. Site 15, the only pull-through, provides privacy, shade and a panoramic view. Consider Painted Rocks Campground for your next camping experience.

Very nice little park. Easy walk to the lake. 32 foot 5th wheel had problems getting out of the camp due to low branches and large ditches along the road. Host was very helpful getting me out without too much damage.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
