Fort Hamby Park Campground in Wilkes County is located 59 min north of Hickory, NC with an elevation of 1,237 feet. There are a total of 36 campsites including 1 tent-only site. The campground is normally open from the end of May to the beginning of September. 32 sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 28 and 143 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. 32 sites have electric and water hookups. 3 sites have electric hookups. Fees range from $25.00 to $125.00. Some amenities include shower, playground, swimming, amphitheater. Activities include fishing, hiking trails, archery.

We love all the sites are Fort Hamby. Bathrooms and showers are very clean! Volunteers are very friendly and helpful.

This was the most beautiful campground with nice large private RV spots. Easy walk to the water and a beautiful trail. You wont be disappointed if you visit here!

We have been doing our family reunion at Shelter Ann at Fort Hamby for years. On this particular day, when we arrived, the shelter was nasty. There was leftover nasty rotten food on the floors and a horrible smell coming from the trash cans. There had obviously been a birthday party at some point and there was leftover trash and confetti all over the place. I realize funding has been cut for a lot of parks, but the shelter really needs fixing up. Its sad seeing it get a lot of age on it and a wood rotting and needing repair!We love coming here and its always a pleasant experience, but she needs a little TLC so we can continue coming here for years to come!

We stayed on site 26 it was secluded and quiet. It is a bit away from the bathroom if you are going in pop-up with no bathroom! Do remember you will need to drive to the swimming area but other than that the place is clean and quiet bathhouses were also well maintained!

I was not very happy with my experience this time.We did not have hot water for showers. We reported the problem to the hosts at the campground. They reported it to the people that are contracted to do repairs. They attempted to do the repairs on a couple of occasions, but it did not happen during our stay. We were leaving on Saturday and they had some people there on Friday afternoon and we were told it had been repaired. Friday night there was no hot water again. The bathrooms were not cleaned properly either. We have been there multiple times and have never had a bad experience until now. I understand that there have been cuts to the budget for cleaning etc. but, there is no excuse for them not to clean it good when they are there. We also did not have lighting at night after 11pm. I also told them in the past that the lights apparently were on a timer and they would come on around dusk and stay on until dawn. They would turn off around 11pm. I sometimes have to go during the night and it was very dark outside. They do not have any street lights either. I will really have to think twice about coming again.

In general I had a great experience there. The only thing holding back from 5 stars is that after the Memorial Day weekend there was no hot water in the shower.

Great little campground with level wooded sites. Most sites are nicely separated for a peaceful camping experience

We camped in the upper loop. No one was camping in that loop when we got there and we were the only ones in that loop until our last day there. The middle loop didnt have a working restroom so the upper loop was the only loop with running water and showers. This campground is not good for older people riding bikes as it is basically on a hillside. The first problem we ran into was getting into the campground. It is gated and we werent told to punch in everything along with the numbers. I like camping in a gated campground as there are no people riding through. I like to fish but I didnt bring my boat and soon found that bank fishing on this side of the lake is very limited. This campground is over a mile away from busy 421 and along with no one just riding through it is a very peaceful campground. We do plan to camp here again but instead of bringing our bikes Ill have my kayak with me next time.

It would be good to add that the water is not potable and for campers to bring fresh water for drinking to the camp site.The site was VERY clean and the views are stunning!!! The hookups were very well maintained and personnel were always kind and welcoming. We will be back to enjoy this site again!!! Thank you so much for creating such a beautiful area!

Park staff and Park Rangers we're very friendly and helpful. Check in process was super easy. Everyone had a great time. There was a sandy volleyball court, playground, and bathroom/ shower house right beside the shelter. Ample parking and a swimming area just below the shelter. This is our go to destination in the summer. We usually camp at this park but with work schedules we were only able to go for a day trip for my son's birthday. Always a great trip.

Enjoyed the stay overall. This site is on a hill until you are parked. Once you are in the site, very private and great for our dogs. We did have cell service so that was good. The roads were in ill repair going into the camp sites.

I'm sure this is a great campground, but the site we ended up with was backing up on a 15% grade. Did not happen. Some of the sites looked good, but no availability and we were planning on being there a week. Thank goodness we could get into Warrior Creek just on the other side of the lake. Staff was good helping us to request refund for the night.
