We love this campground. We stayed in #77 again, as we did a few years ago. Right near the creek, neighbors are far apart and the back of the site is forest. You can hear the creek from site. Friendly, helpful campground hosts. Clean, great location. We will definitely be back again!

During our visit in Mid August, we didn't see a single off road recreation vehicle and the weather was dreamy. Yes it was dusty, but nothing out of the ordinary in CA. While we were in site 77, we were able to hear the creek running throughout the day when our neighbors generator wasn't running. We would camp here again!

Debbie the camp host is the most rudest camp host I have ever experienced in my 26 years of coming to Sherwin Creek. If she is a representative of USFS, California Land Management, Vista or USExplore she is doing a disservice to outdoor recreation. She threatened us with citations and gladly expressed she would use our extra vehicle money at the casino in Bishop. She single handedly ruined our trip with her bad attitude, harassment and bullying.

I was in site #52, which was excellent. It was towards the far end of the campground and it seemed a quiet corner of the grounds. The campground hosts are some of the best I've come across. They're easy to find and run a good camp compared to other places I've stayed at. I didn't hear a sound from anyone around me, and there were no RVs running their loud generators nearby. My visit on 8/10 was my second visit. I stayed once during the pandemic and while that visit was enjoyable, it was in a more crowded area of the grounds (I think maybe site #82). I will definitely stay here again. It's close to town so buying supplies is easy, as is going out for dinner if I don't want to cook. On this trip I did BBQ a ribeye steak on the bbq pit, which was separate from the nearby fire pit.

Paved road leading into the campground has some potholes that you must avoid. Dirt in campground has black volcanic dust mixed in.

I want to give a zero but it isn't about the campground or the camp hosts. It is for Recreation.gov and Trudy from Inyo Recreation.The camp hosts, Troy and Judy, were great. They said my experience was not isolated. Many other campers had the same experience as me when booking their reservation.We have been camping in Mammoth for over 30 years. This is the first time I've been harassed by the contractor that Recreation.gov uses. Not sure what they are supposed to do, but Inyo Recreation called me the day before we are scheduled to arrive. The woman, Trudy called me 4 times, texted me twice (said she did not get my 2 texts with a picture of my Senior Lifetime Pass). She kept talking over me and told me my pass a fake. she just kept repeating this and said I would have to prove it was legitimate. I tried telling her I bought it from a National Park Ranger at a National Park and I charged it on a credit card. So I can prove it! She continued with her harassment of, "this is probably fake and so is your husbands. "Since the beginning, the passes have said 50% discount on camping." I told her my husband got his 5 years ago and the wording is exactly the same as mine. She just kept on with her rant that they are probably fake. I was so upset, my anxiety was through the roof and I started shaking. I hung up the phone on her! I then thought it was a scam to get me to pay her over the phone so I would not answer my phone after that. And yes, she called again and texted me again. Trudy needs to be fired, or the whole Inyo Recreation needs to be replaced before someone sues you for harassment. I sent an email to Recreation.gov with the details of exactly what transpired and all I got was sorry for your experience and contact USGS.gov!!!!!! Unacceptable.

The location is good and the Jeffrey Pine Forest provides shade and cover. The loops are easily accessible and the sites have ample room. If you are tent camping beware of the large trailers and behemoth RVs- they can ruin your experience: loud and noisy at times. The 10 pm quiet time means nothing and is never enforced.

Very large congregation of people adjacent to my campsite were definitely noticeable

Unfortunately for all fishermen, kids, family fishing, not one single bite after purchasing fishing license, purchasing gear, bait, etc. anywhere within or near the campground in this creek running through the campground!

Too many giant RVs with people who do not understand "less is more."

overall had good time camping

Pros: Very generous sized campsites. Clean grounds, close to everything. Our site this year was very shady. Camp hosts were nice and communicated well. Lots of squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and even deer sightings. So relaxing to hang out and watch the wildlife, hang in the hammock, or do axe throwing with the kids. Lots of trails nearby, and close to the creek.Cons: Pit toilets were almost full, stank, and were full of flies. Every time the wind kicked up, which was daily, the smell of human waste permeated the entire campground. (The camp hosts cited budget issues due to waste disposal management.) There are bears every year, and that is part of camping! This years bear was next level. In camp all day and everyday, it was breaking into trailers, harassing the tent campers, and was not afraid of either loud noises or human presence. Usually, bears are opportunists, but this bear stayed and hunted all day. At night, we constantly heard airhorns and panic alarms. Made it hard to sleep, or trust letting the kids wander around. If this was my first trip here, I probably wouldnt return. As it stands, I come yearly and will come again, but I hope management figures out the budget (and bear response) issues for next year!

This site was good, overall. The site we stayed at had plenty of space for our 8-man tent. The host was friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are not flushies and the smell was at times very bad! That was the only drawback.

Lots of RV and off road campers here. As a tent camper, not a big fan, but everyone seemed respectful of each other. Sites were decent size and we were right near the front of camp which meant lots of traffic, but not a big issue. Pit toilets were clean and well maintained. Firewood available from the host. There was some bear activity in the campground but we did not see it at all.

Campsite 11 and 12 lack of any kind of shade. No trees close by. Parking distance is way to far to campsite and crosses other people's campgrounds plus two creeks. Bathrooms a little farer than the parking lot and are septic vault which smelled so bad. Finally, no park rangers patrol those campgrounds neither the hosts. We had the bears trying to assault our campground twice and nobody helped.

This was our 3rd time camping there. We have tried a different site each time. This one was way smaller than the other two we have had and it was not flat at all. Very rocky. Plants through the middle of it. We were pretty disappointed. The camp hosts and location were great as always though!

We had a great time. Its a very clean park and a very attentive camp host. He was able to help us find local spots and was very helpful. We stayed in this park and its a nice drive to Yosemite. Mammoth has good restaurants and grocery stores nearby. We will be staying at this campground again.
@ToddD7843035 · Camped on Jul 3, 2025 at Campsite #23
The site was nice, but the wind constantly blew dust across the road and into our site which was annoying. If it wasnt windy the site was pretty good. The neighbors next door were kind of close, but that turned out to be fine. The hosts of the campground were great and the bathrooms were clean. We love this campground and have returned for many years.
@NickP6401808 · Camped on Jul 3, 2025 at Campsite #76
Lovely site +lovely host = happy campers. Site 76 is spacious, surrounded by wild roses and of course the creek which drowns out all the generators! The hosts were friendly and provided great advice for day hikes. Only downside was the dust- otherwise a fantastic option.
@MatthewD639755 · Camped on Jul 2, 2025 at Campsite #38
Camp site was busy but quiet. No bears, plentiful water, clean restrooms. No mobile service. Short drive to a few trailheads. Camp host was friendly.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
