Paliku cabin needs a little love! Campers leave things behind thinking they are treasures for the next inhabitants but theyre really stuff that needs to go home and be discarded. We were grateful to stay dry (rained all night), and the morning sun was absolutely wonderful. Well be back!

We got so lucky being able to book this cabin. Staying in the crater feels like being on another planet. The stars at night are nothing like I've seen anywhere else. The cabins are rustic, but in great condition. This is such an amazing place and we are so grateful to the staff for maintaining the trails and cabins.

We got to the cabin and found our locker of wood opened and empty. I contacted my niece via satellite message so that she could call park service and get a code for another locker. Did not get a response and luckily it didnt get as cold as we had no heat. This is the response i got back after our trip Hi Terry, this is dispatch. Your daughter had called um, claim that you were out, didn't have any wood in your locker. Unfortunately, it does happen sometimes and the email that you were sent says that sometimes there isn't any wood there and to just bring enough clothes to stay warm. Um, I hope that you stay warm out there and sorry about um, not having any with my cabin. Have a good evening, bye. Thats a translated voicemail. Typical govememt response I guess. Just be forewarned. Other than that had a magical time backpacking the crater.

We had perfect weather and Paliku is always a dream. Stars were out in full effect! Cabin had no propane due to mule issues at the park but we were notified ahead of time to bring our camp stoves & fuel. Toilet paper also low - so always good to pack your own mountain money!

2nd time in a row that we have had no propane in cabin. Seems like the rangers and park personnel dont care as much anymore such a shame hopefully get it together soon

I suggest you call the rangers the day before. On our last trip, we arrived at the top and they informed us there was no propane at any of the cabinsso, no cooking and no water purification. We had to drive back to Kahului to buy a stove, canisters, and water tablets. If we had known in advance we would have brought the gear. :/

Rangers did not notify us of the propane outage until we arrived at the visitor center. Paliku cabin is deteriorating and the mice are in the hundreds, occupying all the drawers and cabinets. Such a pity. This is an amazing historical place and in a beautiful location, but it is almost uninhabitable now.

This is a wonderful place to be, I always love the experience of being in Haleakala Crater and especially in the cabins. It is magic!

Trails were well maintained. Signage was helpful to navigate. Cabin was vintage, but that is a part of the adventure.

Hiked to the far cabin and back over two days. A lot of work, but very rewarding. Beautiful landscape, unique wildlife, and a real get away from people. Rangers at this park were very friendly and helpful as well.

It was a lovely experience. The folks who were supposed to join me were not able to, so I went alone, and THOROUGHLY enjoyed the quiet. Actually, I wasn't alone. I had 3 Nene geese for company, and they were hilarious! I have visited the cabins before, so knew the compressed logs were impossible to chop, and knew the place would be far from sterile, but I doubled up the sleeping pads and cozied into a bunk, looking out the windows to the most incredible starry sky ~ Holua is a special place. Magical, actually.

Haleakala crater is even better enjoyed when you can spend the night. The stars, the sounds, or lack of sound even. Its a beautiful place. The cabins make staying overnight a breeze, especially when bringing the whole family.

Hiking through Haleakal National Park is akin to a spiritual experience. The crater is an amazing place. Staying at Holua cabin for two night was great. Im in my mid sixties and my husband in his mid seventies and being able to break the long hike up into two legs and have a rest day in the middle was a game changer. Sunrise from inside the crater is out of this world.

Beautiful hike to a gorgeous cabin. Typical trail cabin, rustic but provides shelter and warmth. The cushions on the bunks were an added bonus.

Cabins are rustic, and outhouses are precisely what you think they would be, so be prepared for the smell and conditions. Usually, there is toilet paper, but if you are concerned, bring one roll to help your peace of mind. You need to carry everything in and out, so consider that when packing food. Summer stays could be dry, and water catchments might not have water. Be prepared to carry water on your hike for your time in the crater.

We love the hike in and out. The stars we amazing. The flys in the cabin were prevalent this trip! But that is okay. BRING YOUR OWN DISH RAGS. Just a helpful hint. Those rags up there are disgusting.

It was good. The propane and wood logs were stocked. It was great weather so that added to the experience. They resident Nene kind of like people too much and defecate all over the picnic area. Other campers probably feed them which is too bad, otherwise they are pretty cool. Peaceful beautiful area. Magnificent at night watching the full moon and listening to the resident Hawaiian petrels fly above.

Aloha, our group of 12 had the opportunity to stay at the Paliku cabin this past Saturday. After hiking 10 miles in heavy mist, wind and rain, it was nice to be able to spend the night indoors. Here are some details about our stay that I thought might be helpful for future visitors. The cabin had four triple bunk beds and a great large table for the group. The kitchen was stocked with large pots for boiling water, a kettle, pans, bowls, plates, utensils, and mugs. There was a large propane burner stove with propane provided lined through the wall with a master shut-off switch; four small wood logs for the wood burning stove; and plenty of toilet paper in the nearby outhouse. I mention these last three items because when our group arrived at the summit trailhead we were greeted with a temporary NPS sign saying the cabins would not have propane, wood or toilet paper. We packed two small gas stoves and some TP to be safe. Given that I received three emails regarding my trip the week prior, including one the day before, it would be nice if the NPS could confirm 24 hours in advance if there would be propane/wood/toilet paper available so groups could plan accordingly. The NPS also recommends bringing your own cleaning supplies to sanitize the cabin. I also highly recommend bringing in some Clorox wipes, dish soap and sponges to wipe down the kitchen area and table as we found mice turds on the counters. There is a hook in the ceiling to hang your trash and hooks of the bunkbeds to hang your packs overnight so that the mice don't get into them. The wood burning stove worked alright once we got it going but the logs provided were not enough to dry out our gear and were done in a few hours. The NPS recommends buying additional logs and I do as well, although given the wet conditions often found at Paliku, maybe they could provide a few more and just build it into the nightly rate. Overall our group enjoyed ourselves and a big Mahalo to the NPS for providing this experience!

Phenomenal, otherworldly setting. The bunk pads were suitably comfortable, and there were plenty of utensils and and cooking gas for meal prep. We went to sleep to the sound of ua'u (Hawaiian petrels) serenading us and woke up to a flock of nene (Hawaiian geese) outside the cabin. The best experience from my whole trip to Maui.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
