This campground is a great choice if you cant secure a spot at more popular spots and have an RV. Its just alright if youre tent camping. Its about 30 minutes from Custer state park, an hour from Spearfish canyon and an hour from Wind cave and the views on the drive are unbeatable.The site I stayed at (001) is alright, a good amount of shade but its literally 15 feet from the entrance to the campground. For me, I wish I couldve had more privacy and not hear every bit of traffic entering and leaving. It was a short distance from the toilet which was nice. That being said, the staff was amazing and extremely helpful with recommendations and just friendly and pleasant people.While its beautiful and peaceful (sometimes, theres construction I heard throughout the nights during my stay), its as primitive camping as it can get without being backcountry camping. The bathrooms are pit toilets and a spigot for drinking water is the only amenities you have. Google will tell you theres showers on site but there isnt and you cant use the spigot for dishes or anything. Youre told a campground 5 minutes away has WiFi and a shower but when I went, it was run down and I just left. I guess if youre experienced with this and dont mind, its not a big deal. However my whole trip was centered around 5+ miles of hiking daily and not being able to shower wasnt the best. Its not a horrible place for tent camping but its really ideal for RVers and while Im glad I got to experience it, I wouldnt stay again.

Nicely wooded. Sites need some improvement on leveling. Road is very narrow. Still a good location for checking out the attractions.

The location was pretty and staff was great and helpful. Our problem was that we were tent camping and the RV near us had a very loud generator that they ran in the evening about the time we wanted to sit around a fire, look at the stars and enjoy the silence. I think it would be better all-around if there were an area designated for tent camping only so as to avoid that kind of situation.

Awesome campground. We enjoyed the spaciousness, beautiful setting, fellow campers and quiet. Only issue is we reserved our site through the recreation gov site but they had no record at camp ground. Very interesting reluctance on part of admissions person as we provided confirmation # and paid receipt. All worked out fine but a very confusing start to our otherwise wonderful experience. Heck, we even saw Sasquatch one evening. Thanks for a great 1.5 week stay.SincerelyEric Brockman

Great smallish campground with plenty of personal space on the site. My site was right on the lake and it would be a perfect spot to fish and just enjoy the lake.

this year was esceptionally wonderful, great weather helped and the pesky bugs were no where to be found. restroom was very well kept up and cleaned daily. camp sites were spaced far enogh apart nieghbors we not a problem, even 3 sites next to us with the boy scouts camping. Great place to fish as trout were plentiful and blue gills were great over the camp fire. watchout for the northern pike as we lost some tackle from time to time. even shore fishing was great. looking forward to next years visit.

Beautiful campground and location! We stayed there for a week while exploring the Black Hills. We were very impressed with the quality of camping. Our favorite part was being in the woods and the beach. We enjoyed clean bathrooms and everything was well kept. Very friendly people there to check us in. We will absolutely be staying there again.

Beautiful campground by the water. Well kept spots in a gorgeous location. Be careful coming in. Check the address and know where you are going, we lost cell service and ended up in the Group Sites.

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
