Moon Lake Campground, UT - Latest Reviews, Photos & Campground Map

Moon Lake Campground is located in the Roosevelt Ranger District, Ashley National Forest (2 hrs 31 min east of Provo, UT) with an elevation of 8,735 feet. There are a total of 54 campsites including 8 tent-only sites. The campground is normally open from the end of May to the beginning of September. 46 sites can accommodate RVs up to 60 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. Fees range from $20.00 to $32.00. Some amenities include swimming, flush toilets. Activities include biking, boating, fishing, horseback riding, hiking trails, floating sports.

We are unable to provide water at Moon Lake Campground, Moon Lake Group Site and the Moon Lake Guard Station for the 2026 season. Due to debris flow damage during the summer of 2023, we are installing a new water system to replace the infrastructure that was damaged. This project is currently underway, but we do not expect it to be completed this season. We apologize for any inconvenience and please reach out if you have any questions.

The campsite itself was pretty good. It was very close to our neighbor, but it is it is. Biggest issue were the wasps. Any time we had food out wasps would swarm our site. My son actually got stung by one so that was kinda annoying. There was also a wedding going on at the cabins. The issue was that curfew is supposed to be 10 and their party went well passed 11. I understand it's a wedding and all, but it was just kinda annoying that we had the involuntary enjoyment of listening to Dance Monkey Dance while we were trying to sleep. Lastly, the water spigot was turned off so I couldn't wash my gear or anything before leaving. Overall, I still loved the campsite and recommend it to anyone looking for a good location. But there were still some things that were a bit annoying.

PLEASE Check when booking this camp site!You need to call moonlake resort next to this campsite to make sure there is not an event going there. They had a wedding event when we stayed. And there was a booming DJ microphone and loud music all through the campsite and forest. Luckily, the lady at moonlake resort and the lady at moonlake group campground did theirvery best to get to get the music turned down as quickly as they could. You could still hear the music through the weekend but it was much better after they did that. But that is not what we expected and not what we paid for.....To go camping in a quiet forest and have all that noise & music all weekend.Recreation.gov also needs to change the dates that they close campsites.There are lots of people who want to go camping later in the season towards the end ofSeptember, up to the first week of October where there are not tons of kids and noiseand not just fit people into a box that people only travel during the summer.It's unfair that they don't keep the campsites open longer for other people who want to enjoy more quiet periods and after kids are back in school. This is a wonderful, and amazing camp site but they have issues they need to resolve.

There is still no water supply, so plan accordingly. The other unfortunate aspect is the bathrooms they provide get emptied once a week and when its hot and busy theyre nearly unusable. With all that being said youre still paying the same fee as before when they had wonderful facilities.

Moon Lake Campgrounds is such a peaceful escape! The sites are clean, spacious, and right near the beautiful lake perfect for fishing, kayaking, or just relaxing. The staff is friendly, and the whole place feels well cared for.The regular bathrooms were closed during our stay, so only porta potties were available, but they were clean and well-maintained. Overall, its a quiet, scenic spot thats perfect for a relaxing getaway. Well definitely be back!

The water has been shut off for two years now and it sounds like it will be another year until they get it back up. They brought in portable outhouses, not fun. Sorry, it is usually a good place for a visit but not until they get some things fixed.

Due to fire and flooding, there were no services at the campground. Only porta johns. Hiking trails were closed (also due to flooding). The beach part of the lake wasn't a great place to hang out - the ground was mushy mud.

There was no water. The restrooms were all out of order. The portable toilets were full and needed to be dumped. I had three campsites reserved and one of them was canceled. The fishing was terrible because there were very few fish in the lake.
@DavidL8659169 · Camped on Jul 9, 2024 at Campsite #38
We had a good time despite the fact that the campground has NO flushing toilets or water. Aparently there was a flash flood last season that destroyed the infrastructure. We were bringing friends here that are newer to camping and it was a surprise to have to use porta potties and go buy water. Luckily we had brought a lot of water with us but we had planned to make full use of the water to wash dishes etc and they really need to update that the campground has no water at all. The portapotties were also very full probabaly dangerously full and very close to each campsite. On the last night the campsite smelled terrible because of them. I wish the potties were away from the campsites. Someone finally came to empty them and they blocked the campground road for 30 min while they emptied them on the day we left.

I realize the flood that washed out the water system was an act of nature. However, the porta potties were full and not maintained. If work is contracted out they should fulfill the contract. The lake conditions were good and we still had a good time.

Enjoyed the weekend. Had a great campsite. Little disappointed that the camp host had 2 dogs that were never on their leases. They just let them roam. We were there for the flash flood and luckily survived. So many other campsites got flooded big time. Will go back again once they reopen it.

Wonderful! I reserved a spot but decided on a FFS instead since a nice one was available. Bathrooms were great. Since theres no developed boat dock, this is a wonderful lake for fishing, sailing, and enjoying kayaks and paddleboards.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
