A large relatively spacious campground. Our site was right on the river. Its well away from the crowds of the Valley. The Big Trees are a short drive. You can access the Glacier Pt Rd pretty quickly. And if you want to spend a day I. The Valley, thats easy. Very quiet morning and night

At the risk of exposing a secret, we absolutely love the Wawona campground. True, its not in the Valley and if thats the experience you want then try to make a reservation there. However, if you want a more mellow experience go to Wawona. Its right on the river, the sites are fairly large, and the bathrooms are very clean. Good hiking is nearby (check out the Mariposa Grove and Chilnuana Falls trails. The Wawona hotel is a nice place to enjoy a cocktail. Weve camped and the Valley and wont do it again.

What a srunning campround located in Yosemite next to a, rather cold, creek. Convenient flush toilets. It does ger rather cold at night and hot during the day (August). Creek entrance is suitable for some swimming. Wanona hotel/Big Trees short drive away to have lunch/diner or if fully booked, for a takeaway meal on their porch or at your campsite. Just 10 minutes ride away from Mariposa Grand parking where you can catcher the buss to trailer to visit the sequoia Trees.Site 72 was situatie next to the Rivera, great views.

We had a wonderful time at Wawona! I would say that the only thing that I wish could be changed was the “One Way” streets, make it very difficult for someone with a longer camper/trailer to back into their site so that door/sitting area is not on the road. We reserved a spot on the river, but it was super challenging getting our rig backed into our spot! It’s only tough for bigger campers, not a huge deal!

I stayed in 72C. It had a great view of the river and was by my measurement 48 feet from pole to pole. My truck and 30 ft 5th wheel fit fine. Traffic is 1 way in with your driver side to the river. The dump station in Wawona was close enough and small store with necessities was there including fuel. The Mariposa Grove was close but required (at that time of year) a hike to the top of the hill on the paved road to start walking the grove. This was in late April of a year with HEAVY snowfall so the shuttle bus was not running yet because of winter road damage. I think for most people riding the bus and saving their hiking energy for the grove would improve the expierence. We had encountered the same road problems at Sequoia. Ironically we saw more big trees at Yosemite. We day tripped to the Valley which worked OK. The rest of the park was still closed so we were able to see what could be seen that early in the year in 1 day. It's a pretty winding drive from Wawona to the Valley. That said the record snowfall melt made for FANTASTIC waterfall sights in the Valley. Since I'm self contained I never saw the bathroom, but they were closed anyway because of a water line issue, I believe.
