Great campground with plenty of shade. But a lot of people building fires with green wood they gather in the woods makes for a great deal of smoke in the evenings. (Though people arent supposed to gather wood outside the campground, few read the campground rules.) Bathrooms are well maintained in spite of the cuts to the NPS. As great as the camp hosts are, I think its inappropriate for them to display political banners at their campsites.

Everything was great other than nothing being able to keep the same site for both nights. Other than that, all was great!

We were very disappointed to see all of the graffiti around the valley and the lack of sites being released. They’re only releasing about 70%. I inquired about the possible increase in fees at the checkin kiosk later in the trip as I was wondering why we weren’t being notified as campers during the comment period when we checked in and the response I was given was “why should I?” The one way traffic now is also problematic as it makes it difficult when people stay past the checkout time and you have to find a place to wait and then go all of the way out just to come back in. It’s pretty ridiculous. During our visit we assisted in a medical emergency in the campgrounds and it took about 30 minutes for emergency help to arrive…. Be aware and consider driving yourself if you need to get medical attention. In addition, many places are closed or close early…. Mountain Room is closed, Meadow Grill and Village Grill both close by 6, there are no shuttle busses or tours, pools are closed, there are no raft rentals or ranger programs, you can’t go in the Visitors Center…. It’s a very different Yosemite right now. Be prepared to wait at the gate as Yosemite is now requiring daily permits to even enter but they don’t have staff at all of their kiosks so some lines are completely closed. Campsites are also no longer released in the Valley and are only on recreation.gov. This is extremely difficult in the Valley if you’re trying to extend your stay as service is extremely intermittent and hard to get. The whole system needs to be revamped. As a long time visitor, we are really disappointed with the way things are being handled currently. We’ve traveled to many other National Parks, many of which have paved sites, hookups, updated facilities etc. Yosemite really needs to step up their game.

Yosemite is always stunning, even on snowy winter days. It was especially quiet and serene with fewer folks due to covid restrictions. It was difficult maneuvering our travel trailer into our campsite. They plowed the roads and paved camp pads, but there was no room to back in with the snow piled up along the sides.
