This campsite has a two car new cement pad which we used for our minivan, our large tent and our bikes. It's in the front of the campground close to the road but not too close. The trees aren't as dense as the sites near the back so you get some partial sun. There was a heated restroom nearby and being in the first loop, it was convenient to come and go from the campground on our bikes. The camp host was friendly and helpful. We loved being so close to Curry Village and enjoyed breakfasts in their spacious cafeteria and the lounge with a fireplace. When there was a lot of pedestrian traffic on the main paths, we enjoyed biking the tranquil paved path that goes between Mirror Lake and the Ahwahnee Hotel.

Avoid "Rangers" Larry and Jim at all costs (which means probably avoid the Upper Pines campground altogether). They are the absolute worst... unfriendly, unhelpful, and downright rude. If the Upper Pines campground spent more time and effort on actually improving their infrastructure and being courteous to guests, then this could probably be a very pleasant place to stay, given the obvious beauty of camping in the Yosemite valley. However, with zero attempt to fill in the hundreds of potholes on their roads, or to clear ice off roads and sidewalks in the winter, or to fell dead "widowmaker" trees prior to them crushing patrons, the Upper Pines Campground is physically treacherous. Add in the social factor of the unwelcoming "rangers," who seem to care more about kicking you out and keeping the turnstiles rolling, rather than ensuring that you enjoy your limited time in a mystical place, and this campground is borderline hostile. I don't have personal comparisons with other camp sites in Yosemite, but I can't imagine you could do worse than the Upper Pines (solely due to infrastructure and the @z$hats working there).

Great experience, one of my favorite camp sites. Coming back in the end of Feb.

Campground was overall great! Checked out early & volunteer didnt know how to handle. Refund was short $18 so will get a receipt next time. No place like Yosemite.

Nice clean campground and bathrooms. Ranger very helpful with information and direction on activities. Note that our visit was in Dec. We were unable to find the water spicket but had water of our own. Also this time of year not really any sun so especially cold.

Accessible campground in Yosemite Valley, a short drive to all of the waterfalls and lookouts. Close access to the trailheads, and an easy bike ride through the valley.

everything was great

We were there for 4 nights and then left early to avoid the snow that was coming in. The site was amazing, the experience was amazing, the hiking was amazing. We saw one bear on the Mist Trail and had many deer walk through our campsite area. The only down side were the RV generators. We were towing our camper trailer but did not turn on our generator for the entire time. Some of the neighbors had their generator on whenever they were allowed to do so. Other then that it was amazing.
The RV dumpstation was functional and clean. The Curry village store had a good selection of fun souvenirs and food/drinks. Glacier Point was incredible, the waterfalls in the fall were trickles but they were still beautiful.

Still quite a bit of snow on the ground this time of year (early March), but no problems getting around or finding space for tent.
