Fantastic campground! Well maintained, easy to book (although understandably, availability is tricky), quiet, clean. The staff here was absolutely wonderful.

Major Issues

The spot is extremely tight. We stayed in Aug and this area was butted together or it just happened to be an area where campers showed up to their reservations. There were spots closer to the entrance where there weren't anyone there. What a shame. Supposedly everything was booked but people didnt show. We could hear everyone's conversation as if they were next to us even when they weren't necesssrily talking loud. During mid day there is no shade in Aug so don't plan on hanging out at this spot until 5pm. Wouldn't return to this spot again.

The campsite is lovely and situated in such a convenient location close to major hikes and a lovely river. Make sure to put your tent on the highest ground in your site just in case, we saw a lot of people whose tents got swamped with the fast rains.

Some Coverage

Nice campsite at the back of the upper pines campground. This site has a small footprint. It's described as a "small tent site" and that's accurate. My four-person tent fit snuggly. Don't book this site expecting to fit multiple tents or anything bigger than four-person. That said, there was still room for me to set up a free standing hammock and propane fire pit in addition to the existing fire pit/grill and picnic table. Short easy walk to the bathrooms, water, and trash receptacle without being too close. This site does not have a lot of shade and got really warm during the day. The site nextdoor was much shadier. I'd recommend bringing some sort of canopy if you can. I visited late September and bugs weren't a big issue aside from bees who were all over my food while cooking and eating. We were lucky enough to have a few coyote and deer visit the campground. Also at this time of year the campground was fairly quiet during the week and got noticably busier/louder on the weekends but never enough to be an issue. Easy access to everything in the valley via shuttle, bike, or car.

one part of the Upper Pines is so cramped that you basically sit on top of each other with other campsites.
