Absolutely loved upper pines! Our spot was full sun until after 4pm or so and by the bathrooms but we made it work!

193 is right in front of the bathrooms and water, so a looot of people came and went through our place and even late at night. Some even walk on the middle of where we were (which at least for me was disrespectful). Otherwise, campgrounds really good and spacious. Near the mist trail, falls, and river. Store is at 30-minute walk, and other facilities, like RV dump station, and parking lots for the trails. Lots of people bring their own bikes. Its a great place, except for the bathroom next to some campgrounds (which is good, but at the same time, people come and go as they please)

Loved this campground. We were so lucky to get two (different) campgrounds on two consecutive dates a couple of days before arrival to Yosemite, because we set up alerts on specific dates on the website. So thank you to the people that ended up cancelling. And lesson learned: Don't get disappointed if everything is fully booked when so look up the dates you would like to book. The alerts were sent out to about 1500 people, and we got lucky twice. So guys, set up those alerts.

Our specific campsite was small and in a busy part of the loop, squeezed between the road and the bathroom. Camping in Yosemite is always a positive experience, but this campsite (193) was my least favorite of any I have stayed in over several decades. We really appreciate the darkness of night, but the bathroom lights never went off, despite having motion detectors. Also, the outside lights are far brighter than necessary to help people find their way to the building at night. Dimmer and warmer-tone (lower color temp) lamps would be a plus. The sink for dumping dishwater was clogged. It doesn't seem that NPS has enough staff to properly maintain these bathrooms. There used to be an outlet in bathrooms for shavers etc, but those are now covered with a blank faceplate. I don't understand why NPS lets cellular companies put in cell towers in the park but doesn't even provide a USB plug somewhere for charging devices. Priorities seem upside down.

Campground is a little crowded, too many people cutting through occupied sites to go to the restrooms.

No electricity, no water hose at the place, but overall well done!

This campsite should be eliminated. Too close to trash and restrooms, everyone walks right through the site and washes dishes till all hours.

Con- Sites are on top of each other, very close. My site was only 4 feet from the bathrooms and I had people walking through my site to use the bathroom. Pro- close to hiking and shuttles.

Enjoyed our stay, cool to see bears in the wild.

Good location in the valley, easy check-in and check-out. Campsites for tents are very simplistic but provide a bear-safe food locker. Recommended location for a quick escape to Yosemite with a focus on outdoor activities, not necessarily a campsite you want to spend most of your day at. Walking distance to Curry Village and dinner options there.

Site was very nice for our RV. It was flat enough but not laid out particularly well. The picnic table was on the right side of RV, when backed in, as is normal, however the fire pit was on the left side of the RV, kind of a weird lay out. Then there's the bathroom right behind the site. This isn't intrinsically bad, however you will have people walking through your site to access the bathroom instead of going the extra 12 feet where there was a path. This isn't a problem with the site, it's more of a problem with people's lack of manners and respect of others. Also, this campground as a whole was one of the loudest campgrounds we've ever stayed in. People were yelling (excessively) til late at night (midnight) with little respect for others. I'm for people having fun, playing catch in the roadways, having smores, telling stories, biking through campground - all that stuff's totally cool, but constant yelling so you could hear your voice off the canyon walls at midnight, seems unnecessary.

The first night the campground was closed due to high winds, so we had to camp by the road.

The setting in the Yosemite Valley is incredible, but the campground, especially our specific site, was disappointing. I know the park is extremely popular and thus the campsites are squeezed together to maximize the number of campers that can be supported. Unfortunately, our site had a double whammy - there was a garbage bin in front of our site, and a restroom behind our site. The garbage bins are bear-proof and thus can be loud when opened and closed, which we got to listen to when in our site. The worst part was that there was no true path to the restrooms, and thus campers were constantly walking thru our site to use the restroom. And I don't mean walking by our site - I mean literally walking between our pickup camper and our picnic table. Clueless and rude, IMHO. It really detracted from our enjoyment while in our campsite.

August was hot. The rivers and streams were cool and fun to bask in. It was still a hiking adventure, with a lot of swimming thrown in.
