Upper Pines is beautiful, quiet and convenient to many of the trails and sights we wanted to explore. The campground gets very smoky in the evening when people are making fires (Ive camped in dozens of campgrounds and never experienced anything like this), and we also noticed that there was no soap or hand sanitizer in the bathrooms, even though all of the other bathrooms around the park seemed to have that.

Very nice campground. Beautiful location. Downside is the relatively long distance to shower facilities at Curry Village.

The campsite was a five star, but our experience was marred by a large, loud group of children. Nothing against children, but there should be a group activity space. Lovely otherwise.

Yosemite valley is amazing. Bring bicycles for easy access to everything while avoiding car parking problems (valley shuttle was not operating due to covid).

Our two night stay at Upper Pines (Oct. 20 and 21, 2020) was very enjoyable. We hiked to the base of El Capitan and watched the rock climbers, drove to Glacier Point (the view was a bit hazy due to smoke from wildfires, but, heck, its Yosemite valley), and then hiked to the top of Vernal Falls (a strenuous uphill hike) and returned to the Valley via the John Muir Trail which gave us good views of Nevada Falls. Given that we arrived with limited supplies, access to the store and the restaurants made our stay not only doable, but also enjoyable. We left the park driving to the east through Tuolumne Meadows (a real treat) and out the Tioga Pass entrance. My prior visit to Yosemite was when I was in my mid-teens in the late 1960s. Amazingly, in many ways (e.g., the one way road system in the valley, bearproof containers at every campsite, limited, but sufficient, access to supplies and restaurants, and improved trails), the park is better than I remember from my last visit 50+ years ago.

Great, clean campsite in one of the most stunning National Parks - what's not to love?! Bear box was plenty big, nice to have the picnic table, and wish we could have used the fire pit (fire season prevented it).

Loved Yose, tolerated the denuded campscape.

The sites in this campground are very close together with hardly any vegetation between so it feels like you are camping with your neighbors on each side. It also gets overwhelmingly smokey in the evenings as everyone is having a campfire. Other than those two things this campsite was good. It is conveniently located in relation to the beginning of the Half Dome Hike as well as the Yosemite village. Also be aware, cell service was pretty spotty in the camp and you might have to go to Yosemite Village to get a signal if you need to communicate with someone back home.
