Upper Pines campground is crowded with other campers not respecting campsite boundaries. The new bus routes are inconvenient beyond the visitor center, requiring that you completely circle the valley before returning.

Recomendable 100%

Large campsite. Lots of room to spread out compared to some of the other spots. Good afternoon shade in the back for tents. We were there in April and the weather was amazing but can imagine it getting hot in the summer with little shade around the table and bear box. We used a popup for shade over the table, which was helpful. Would definitely book this spot again.

Great campground on the valley floor in walking distance to some of the great trails, such as the Mist trail and the John Muir trail. Some of the campsites have quite a bit of space and a view of half dome and glacier point. Shuttle stop is nearby which is convenient travel to other valley destinations.

The driveway was partially degraded near the far back and needs to be repaved to full end of the driveway. The woman's bathroom lights (in one bathroom) were non-functional. The toilet paper is the cheapest and least functional I have ever used (please upgrade the quality). The wood picnic table was extremely warped. You can't however beat the location and was adequate for camping.

One of the bathrooms close to me was closed, but there was another one open not too far away. Bathrooms were very clean. There was snow everywhere and beautiful! Just a few feet away from the mist falls trail. If I was to have two cars, you would need a shovel to clear away the snow.

We live 45 minutes from Yosemite and only stay when there is a chance of getting snow. Yosemite is even more beautiful when wrapped in snow. And although the the decorations at the Ahwahnee seemed a little reduced this year, it's still a must see during the Christmas season. There were also no buses running which didn't bother us, but was a problem for those not prepared to walk in deep snow. One other thing that was different this year was all the "grumbling" from the concessionaire employees. Don't know whether it was from NPS cutbacks or Aramark's own decisions, but definitely some unhappy employees (could all be Covid related). And, the new reservation system needs a little work. We reserved a site for our stay a few days in advance. Then our favorite site became available. But, there was no easy way to just swap our sites online. Instead, it took almost an hour on hold waiting for a human. Final word, if you've never seen Yosemite after a good snowfall in the Valley, it's a MUST!!!
