bring bicycles as most places are close enough to camp and you won't have to wait for buses

As a destination, there's not much that beats the Yosemite Valley. The campground at Upper Pines has decent space and good access to the stores. However, it's a bit crowded (we were there in July 2024) and it's obviously luck of the draw when it comes to neighbors who may choose to play music at 11pm. Our campsite (#85) is too close to the restroom...the main problem of this is the light pollution as the motion sensors are very sensitive. Overall, it was a decent place to stay, but not the best.

We love camping at Upper Pines! We bring our bikes and love biking around Yosemite Valley. We are also sure to bring soap because the campground bathrooms don't supply any. The camp hosts and rangers are friendly and helpful. The ravens, pileated woodpeckers, and stellar jays are entertaining to watch while around the campsite.

Love Winter snow camping at Upper Pines! I am 70 and some change, and have been coming to Yosemite at least once a year since I was in HS. Changed from summer camping to only Winter camping about 20 years ago, due to crowds. In January, there are very few people, and the folks that are there, are much more "seasoned" then the typical day trippers you find in warmer months. Common areas around the village\stores\restaurants are constantly being cleared, (Shoe Ice cleats are highly recommended) making getting around easy. Buses are very reliable, no need to drive anywhere yourself. Trails are empty, but snowshoes are highly recommended for leaving plowed areas. The views in the silence of winter are just stunning, and a wonderful time to renew your soul. Having the right equipment, may it be tent or trailer, is all it takes to stay warm and dry. Pro tip.... don't be that guy walking around in 25degF temps, with no shirt and wet sneakers.

Just a wonderful campground. Close to the shuttle stop, plenty of room between sites and good access to toilets and fresh water station. Perfect for a 31’ RV.

Wintertime camping in Yosemite, while requiring well thought out preparation, is one of the best experiences. We have been winter camping at Upper Pines for almost 30 years. The Park folks work hard to keep the campground clean, and make sure that the folks from all over the world are safe. Gentle reminders to some about bear safety was professional, as was reminders to some about generator hours.
The beauty of the park in winter is breathtaking. The contrast of granite rock walls, with mounds of fresh snow piled high in some places creates a sense of peaceful solitude, that renews the sole. Also renewing is a good adult beverage around an evening warming fire, but that is another story!

Loved staying at Upper Pines. The close proximity of Curry Village for last minute supplies and restocks was very helpful. I definitely recommend renting bikes from Curry Village and exploring the valley that way for a day!

Campsites & bathrooms were very clean. Park Rangers were very helpful and friendly.

There was an active bear in the area, so camping right near the forest line made me a bit nervous, but all was well :)

Upper Pines is classic Yosemite. it is picturesque with granite walls surrounding it and views of Half Dome from some sites. It is easy to bike all over the valley and get to hikes on the Mist Trail and Mirror Lake.
