I was lucky enough to score 4 nights at Tamarack Flats, including 4th of July, to escape the fireworks where I live, which terrorize my dogs. This campground is unlike camping in the valley or at Wawona, especially during the day when everyone is off adventuring. It is remote, green & peaceful. Fortunately we had a site that could accommodate 2 cars (actually had 3 for 2/5 days)& 3 tents but we saw some sites that barely had one flat surface for a tent (41?) & one where the fire pit was pretty much in the road (54). The bearboxes were new & much bigger than the dimensions in the Recreation.gov app, think standard sized box. We had a 50qt Rtic, 2 medium coolers plus a square soft sided cooler and everything fit. No bears but we did see a couple beautiful deer. We had rangers come by 2 of the days, the first visit was 2 younger rangers one of whom specialized in Passive Aggressive Communication, the second visit was different rangers, more experienced and friendly. Both visits were informational, we weren't doing anything wrong but gosh, the first young young lady needs to chill. Bathrooms are vault and they were good right after being cleaned but by the end of the day it was terrible. I would walk past 2 sets to get to a less used one. Because the main purpose of my visit was to relax with my dogs, I did not desire to get up at 530am, but I was the only one i think. It seemed like I would awake to banging buckets, horns honking (think bike horns?), and literally 2 guys playing catch outside of my tent at 6:37 am. But despite sassy rangers and early risers I loved it there and will return. Great location with a 20 min drive to Crane Flat gas station (ice, flush toilets, snacks), 30+ min to the valley (swam in the cool waters of the Merced River), about 1 hour to Tenaya Lake (paddleboard, chill on the beach), and can't forget to include, walking through the forest in the campground itself. Biggest recommendation - do your research on camp site, they are not all equal

Everything was wonderful but the needs to be a host on site after hours. There were a few bad actors high on drugs walking around talking loud during quiet hours with headlamps on disturbing the other campers. With no cell service its a potential security threat. Too many souls in one place to have no security.
