Tamarack Flat is a very nice campground and I greatly enjoyed my stay there. My campsite was spacious for a tent and nicely tree covered. There were large boulders in the back of the site which offered privacy and attractiveness. The vault bathrooms were clean and well-supplied and the hosts at the campground were great to talk with. The trail to El Capitan which begins at the end of the old road in the back of the campground. This is a very nice area to hike and it's about 18 miles round-trip to get to El Cap.

Amazing campsite. Beautiful surroundings and feels a world away from the busy valley floor but was still a short drive. It's basic with no water but the creek was flowing when we stayed in September. Russ was a great volunteer/host and gave lots of helpful information. The hike to El Capitan from here is a must! The road info is out of date. It has been resurfaced recently but it is still narrow.

Excellent campground. Because it is not located in the valley, the crowd factor is very low campfire smoke is next to zero. Gets a little chilly at night but I welcomed the fresh brisk air. Super quiet and plenty of space between neighboring campers. A stream runs through the campgrounds making for easy water filtering. Vault bathrooms are, well, vault bathrooms. Small price to pay for all the other advantages this area offers. There were not any RVs or trailers because of the narrows 3 mile road from Tioga Rd to the campgrounds. No generators to deal with and mostly adult campers without children. Not much up there for the kids to do so I suppose this is why I didnt see any. Just a 45 minute drive to the valley unlike the 1 1/2 hour drive from Tuolumne Meadows.

We have camped into Yosemite more than a dozen times been our favorite spot Bridalveil campground. Due to it temporary closing for restauration, we found Tamarak Flats as a good option. Besides the long off road way (3 miles), this is a clean, quiet and great place to stay. Not far from lakes, trails and Village. This will be our preferred spot to Camping alternating with Bridal veil when available.Highly recommended
