Site #55 is very spread out between the parking area, tent site, bear box, fire pit, and picnic table. I didnt care for it and would not recommend the site. Luckily campground rangers were in the campground and allowed me to relocate to an administrative camp host site without having to make any calls or reservation changes through recreation.gov.

This campground is very secluded, which is both a good thing and a bad one. There is no cell service available, no running water, etc. There are bear boxes at each campsite to store food in and several trash and recycling bins scattered around the campground. The condition of roads in the campground is poor - many of them have large potholes. If you camp at the back of the campground, it will take you several minutes just to make it out to Tioga Road. This particular campsite is adjacent to a number of large granite boulders. The best place to put a tent seems to be to the right side of them, at some distance from both the fire ring and the bear box.As mentioned earlier, the lack of cell service can be problematic. If you need to communicate with others for business or personal reasons while you stay here, consider that you will have to drive some distance down Tioga Road until you get any signal at all. For a reliable signal, you may have to drive as far as the valley or to Lee Vining.

Bear boxes are incredibly small and the bears walking around are incredibly large. A campsite is for 6 people but the boxes are for 2-3ppl max.
