This was a surprise as to the quality of this campground. Nicely spaced sites. Mostly shaded. Quiet, well maintained campgrounds, Clean restrooms serviced daily. Lots of hiking trails. If you are a horse person looking for trail riding this area has an abundance of horse trails and a separate equestrian campground area. Managed by corp of engineers. Very impressed., We will be back

Site was large, flat and easy to back our 30ft travel trailer into. Staff was very nice as were the other campers. We joked that it’s the first campground where there was more dogs than young kids. I’m sure that has to do with the fact that the beach is 10 mile drive but yet we can see it from the lookout at the campground. It was interesting but no plans to go back since there isn’t much here. We prefer a campground somewhere in between this laid back one and a party campground.

Very peaceful campground with lots of shade and birdsong! A few mosquitoes but a near constant breeze on the ridge kept them at bay. Campers should be aware that to access the fishing area and river one needs to head out of the area to drive a few miles to an access road. Perhaps there was a multi-use trail (horses and people) that could get you down to the fishing area, but we didn’t find it easily. The entire rec area has many options to enjoy — fishing, kayaking, canoeing, walking trails, equestrian trails, and picnicking spots. The surrounding area had interesting sights to explore, too, including caves, small towns, and miles of scenic drives.

This is our go-to campground. Well-maintained, well-managed, sites are spacious and beautiful. The staff is always courteous and polite.

We stayed in site 17. You are not really close to anything. Swimming in the lake was closed due to high levels of e-coli! This was an electric only site, 50amps. Sites are generously spaced for privacy, with plenty of foliage in between and shade above. It was quiet, peaceful and relaxing. There are a couple trails you can hike from within the campground. Shared trails with horses. A little parade came thru on the last day we were there. We camped at Highland Ridge in a Fifth Wheel.

We were in 17 and was very nice. Campsite was nice and level. The campground is really clean. The little lake was nice also. The beach area is very nice.
Park Rangers are very helpful.

I loved this campground, super quiet, clean, and I was able to gather downed wood to make a fire. Plenty of space for the dog. Would definitely return.
