The location is great--along a scenic stretch of the Mississippi, and within minutes of an excellent brewery/restaurant in Potosi. The one drawback of the campground is the trains, which are loud (especially when they honk the horns), frequent, and run around-the-clock. I travel by motorcycle and pitch a tent, so these comments are about the campground's suitability for tenting. The (non-electric, walk-in) tent sites are grassy and level, with picnic tables, fire rings and stands for hanging your lantern. The tent area also includes the only sites where you can actually camp within a few feet of the river, which is very pleasant on a summer night. The tent area is farthest from the tracks, and most of the sites are separated from the tracks by a small hill that blocks the worst of the noise. There is convenient water (between the RV sites in the back loop) for drinking, cooking and cleaning up, but the tent sites are the furthest from the shower building. If you want a shower or a flush toilet, you are looking at a few minutes' walk. Speaking of the showers... the last couple years they have been erratic--during the summer they were almost too hot; in September they were pretty chilly. Hopefully this will be resolved for next season.During the cool season, I camp in one of the more RV-oriented electric sites so I can use a heater. These are closer to the tracks and therefore louder. They are also a bit on the small side and close together. Most of these sites have some level, grassy area, but with concrete parking pads and gravel under the picnic tables, pitching a tent can be challenging. There is a boat launch in the park, and another up at Potosi Point a few minutes away. Neither is suitable for much more than a shallow-draft fishing boat; if you want to spend a day enjoying the river in a regular motorboat, you'll have to haul it up to Cassville (about 20 scenic miles north) or down to Dubuque.

We only spent one night there and even with the trains we would come back.

This Campground is very well maintained. The river view is beyond beautiful and I love the trains!
