This ACE was not as desirable as other ACE locations. The directional signage in this park is BAD. Or doesn't exsist. Starting with how to navigate your RV to the designated camping area. It has 2 disctinct areas. Next the fresh drinking water for filling the RV wasn't well marked. We hunted. Once found at least 2 had a notice that the water tested too high for EPA safe levels for drinking. There was one location that apprently tested within safe limits. That wasn't easy to locate but we did find it. The sites are close together for electric. The view in the camping area (furtherest from the entrance) looked onto a pond. The Miss. Rv views were off in the distance.

Camp ground was clean and well maintained. Quite in the evening and the staff was very helpful.

We had site 42 which was a back in up against the water. While its not on the main channel of the Mississippi River, the channel is not far from the site and there are benches and walking trails all around to sit and enjoy the river and the barges and tug boats that go by. They come down at night and they have huge spot lights that look like crazy monsters coming down the black water of the mighty Mississippi. Its quite the fascinating sight to see! This park was very well maintained and had nice long gravel sites with electric only (water, dump station and bathrooms are within the park though). We had woodpeckers on the tree behind us and really enjoyed our stay. We liked that you can book, reserve your specific site and pay online.. makes for quick and convenient planning. We had good cell service AT&T 3 bars on LTE. Travel a little further down to Dubuque for trains, bridges, restaurants on the river and the lock and dam #11 where the tugs have to break the barges apart and go through twice to get through the lock because the lock isnt long enough for most barges that go up and down the river. Lots to see in the area! Bring your bug spray or just plan on being inside your camper after the sun goes down!

The reservable area was very nice while the non-reservable area was still mostly under water due to the flooding of the Mississippi River. We were in site 42 and had a very nice view of the Mississippi River. The bugs weren't bad and we had a very nice, relaxing long weekend.

Nice flat sites with fresh gravel-so no mud. Sites are well spaced. Good fire pits. Restrooms very clean with plenty hot water for showers. Trains are far enough away that their sounds do not wake you. River traffic is interesting to watch.
