The setting was beautiful and the water at Waldo Lake was clean.There was no drinking water available throughout the entire campground, not good for people who had not brought enough water with them for their stay. No signs were posted about this problem.The camp hosts cleaned the outhouse regularly, but the toilets badly needed to be pumped out. The ammonia smell inside the outhouse was so strong that it burned your eyes and nose.

When we arrived with our reserved reservations at Shadow Bay campground, we found someone setup with tents in our campsite. This was well after the checkout time. We contacted the camp manager, and he was very nice by giving us a better campsite near to the lake. He said he would charge the people in our reserved site for the extra day. We didn't see the people at our site, as we were told by their neighbors they were out with their boat on the lake. Too bad this seems to be happening more often at the national forest campgrounds. Reviews claim this is a real problem at Oregon central coastal campgrounds near where we live. More camping gear being taken too, such as a new kayak at Coldwater Creek campground we were at a few weeks before.

The water was beautiful on the lake. Not too crowded or anything either and nice little spots with beach access from our campsite. But the mosquitoes at the beginning of July were so bad that I couldnt really stand to sit by the fire or to eat outside. Stayed in my camper except for when I went onto the lake. Bathrooms were also really unclean and smelled terrible.

If your sensitive to bug bites wait til the 'off season' for mosquitos We actually had to leave early due to my 12 year old getting bit so bad the first night they couldn't move with out wanting to cry the next day. The water is amazing. Again if you can get 50 yards away from the shore. And that's really using every spray and thing that was DEET free. And having a double layer shelter setup for bug protection. Sorry as you can tell a little traumatized sites are big. At the moment NO WATER which was okay because we weren't there long. It was pipe damage so they were waiting on repairs. The shadow bay area is just a dry swamp so some sites are next to mosquito beds and never get sunrays. The land is amazing. I will have to come up when the bugs aren't as bad and get the 2 extra stars. The small islands that you can paddle to are GREAT safe zone aways from the bugs and to spend the day at.

Campground was great. We were in 83. Large site. Great access to the lake. Very nice hosts! However, we were there in July, mosquitoes were horrible! Go prepared! I would recommend a pop up screen room!

Waldo Lake is a truly special lake and worth a visit; extract more beauty with a canoe or kayak. The blooming beargrass was spectacular! Do be ready for mosquitoes, however. Take your own water - the water system was vandalized over the winter and is non-functional. I didnt see mention of that on the Recreation.gov website, nor was it mentioned at my stop at the Oakridge Ranger Station, even when I verified there were no shower facilities at Shadow Bay. Why not??I had a great visit, however, and the hosts were quite accommodating. Thank you.

There is no potable water and thats a big deal. Sure theres mosquitoes. Lots of them but you gamble in nature. And ours was a blood donation. But the fact that none of the water is working and available was very disappointing. Ive camped here before and checked the site before I left. No mention of lack of water. It says potable water available. I spent a lot of time checking all the water areas before meeting a host who told me the water is t working. Its a long drive to Crescent or Oakridge to get water. I brought two gallons and boiled water for meals from the lake and still needed to get drinking water. Be aware and take lots of water.

The campground was great, the host/manager was kind and helpful. The only issue was no water...Thank goodness we had a purifier!

A fantastic campground. Nice, spacious sites. Very quiet. Plenty of beach spots to relax and swim from. Nice hiking trails around the lake. We love this spot so much and come back every year!

The camp hosts were very helpful, nice, and kept the campsite clean. Our only issue was the circular stone area to rinse dishes was clogged and very dirty with stagnant water. The camp hosts explained they were waiting on a company to have those areas cleaned.

The mosquitoes at this campsite were the most vicious and numerous that I have ever seen at any campground.The campground was very nice and well maintained.Waldo lake was beautiful and clear!The campground hosts were very helpful and nice.

Beautiful setting and great camp hosts this year. Just a few mosquitoes in the early evening and shady areas but not bad at all, much better than early or mid summer. Composting toilets....a mixed bag. Strong ammonia smell and flies in F loop, much better in other loops. But hosts kept them spotless and sanitized. Dishwater disposal receptacles in all sites plugged with tree needles and grease, I don't think they've been cleaned out in years. Lots of water hydrants inoperative, perhaps due to late season? These issues didn't detract from our experience, camping in a 22' travel trailer.

Beautiful lake, wonderful beaches, peaceful evening, we love Waldo. However, the grounds here could use some attention/care. Descriptors for camp sites are not accurate, they only fit one tent.

We had a wonderful few days at Shadow Bay campground. It's a beautiful campground with the sites well spread out. My only complaint (besides a few mosquitoes) is that the bathrooms had such a strong ammonia smell and were so full of flies that they were almost unusable.

Had a wonderful time out on the water, but not so good in the campground. Dogs barking constantly, big trees cut down all over our campsite. The hosts were great though !

Waldo Lake is beautiful, and Shadow Bay is great for camping and family fun. The camp hosts in 2023 were very friendly and kept things exceptionally clean. Thank you.

Gorgeous sites, clean bathrooms, super helpful and friendly camp host. Every site is close to the water, just a few minutes walk at most. We could see the lake from our site and it was about 40 feet from the crescent beach. The scenery and the lake are world class. Hiking, paddling, relaxing. Waldo is an incredible place and this campground is hard to beat.

Absolutely beautiful lake and campsite! The bathrooms smell horrible and there are enough mosquitoes to drive you crazy! Bring bug spray, tiki torches and lots of citronella candles.

Waldo Lake is our favorite place to camp and kayak. However, the bathrooms remain in dire need of maintenance. They were very clean but the stench is unbearable. The camp hosts were wonderful. Very friendly and helpful.

Waldo is a beautiful area, we’ve been going for years. Be advised this year and last there has been no potable water at Shadow Bay. You can drive 10 mins to Islet and get water there if needed.

Our campsite was great. I did not realize upon booking that it was a double site. The site was nicely tucked away by the lake. It was perfectly clean and more than we could ask for. I would maybe remove one of the cement blocks that is used for parking because when we got in at night we drove over it and got the car stuck on it. Other than that, remember to bring bug spray kids! Gorgeous camp area with a gorgeous lake.

Park hosts were amazing. We left a necklace there, they went out of their way to contact us and send it back! Park was clean. We love waldo and this is our new favorite place to stay!

The mosquitoes were horrible!! I can’t necessarily blame the campsite for it, however it would’ve been nice to have a warning that they were so many swamps next to the campsites.
Also, there was no potable water. We were not informed about this. In fact, the website that I checked several times, said there was potable water there.
The signage within the campsite was not very easy to navigate. I got lost on a few loops. A handout map would’ve been great, because of course, I did not have Internet connectivity to look it up.
The lake was beautiful and everything it promised. The camp hosts were super nice and genuine. However, they could’ve used a bit of help since it was so busy. Maybe more campsite hosts available? I hope their mosquito bites weren’t as bad as mine.
And, what is with the 1 hour in between check out and check in? That’s not fair to anyone!
Honestly, will never camp there again.

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
