We had a reservation at Cold Water Cove Campground for Sept. 11, leaving on Sept. 13. Due to a fire in the area, the roads were closed and we were unable to stay at the campground on Clear Lake. We were disappointed that the reservation system did not notify us of the closure in advance...or make any attempt to refund our fees since there was no chance we could stay there.

I give this place a 3 because it was full shade, no easy access to water, the only close place to buy firewood is clear lake shop but only before 7:00 ($7 a bundle $4 for ice), and the walk back from the bathroom is steep unless you go the long way. There is a lot of privacy and the campground itself was positively deceptive. The walkway from the pull through parking spot is all broken up from tree roots but once you get up the walkway the campground was very large. We fit an 8 person tent and a 2-3 person tent very easily. Large picnic table and fire pit with grill. Tons of privacy.I recommend the clear lake dingy rental. FULL DAY. I dont know about you but it took me wayyy too long to figure out how to row the boat hahaha. $20 for an hour or $40 for full day. Also, if you plan to go to Sahalie Falls or Blue Pool, go EARLY in the morning. Very popular and very limited parking. There was a man writing parking tickets also! There is a convenient store maybe like 15 miles south of the campground. THEY ARE EXPENSIVE! $8 for a family pack of Oreos, $11 for a 6pack of bratwurst, and $18 for a bundle (9-10 pieces) of firewood! Be prepared to spend an arm and a leg for anything you need. They also have a chevron gas station. I would camp here again but in the warmer months.

We camped here in campsite #6 in mid-July 2023. This campsite is a pull through and we were able to fit a truck/camper (with the camper removed), our camper van and a BMW sedan on the pavement. It was tight but it worked! The extra vehicles checked in and paid the "Extra Vehicle" fee of $9 per night. The camp hosts this summer are very nice and helpful. The picnic table and fire pit are uphill a little from the driveway, but it was all shade and very pleasant in the hot weather. One of our group found a nice place for a tent up by the table/fire pit area. If you are looking for the trailhead that goes around the lake (5 miles), we found catching it down by the boat ramp (to the right of the boat ramp if looking at the lake), or down past campsite number 1, where there is an guardrail on the road, on the right hand side, either end of the guardrail you can catch the trail. THE SHORTEST way to the Clear Lake Resort, is to go to the left at the guardrail access point, if you are looking at the lake from the campground road. The lake itself is breathtaking. We launched kayaks from the boat ramp in the campground with no problem, but we had to drive them down there because it's too long of a walk from site #6. There is parking down by the boat ramp. We did the trail around the lake, it's pretty long and the campground side has quite a bit of lava rock areas as the trail. The other side very nice forest floor trail. The trail strays away from the lake quite often as well. But I'm glad we did it. We also did the "Waterfall Trail" to see Sahalie and Koosah Falls. We walked from our campsite to the trailhead which is just across the highway when you exit the campground, down the trail to both falls and back. It was 4 miles total roundtrip from our campsite. Uphill on the return. The vault restrooms were fine, the newer kind.

This place is beautiful and great for hiking (water is too cold for swimming). Most sites do not have a lake view due to heavy foliage but it is still a nice place to stay.
