Went mid week so there weren't nearly as many people. South Shore is on opposite side from the state park. It's much more secluded, and woodsy, and more like "real" camping. The drive to get to the camp grounds feels like you're driving into the middle of nowhere.. but it's totally worth it!! There is a toilet close enough for you to walk to no matter which site you choose. No showers/sinks but they do have running water to use. And while you're a little bit back from the lake, it helps keep the winds down on your camp site, and is no more than a 5 min walk to get to the boat ramps on the paved road, or maybe a minute or 2 to get to the lake if you take the dirt path. (we laid out on the boat ramps after dark to look at the stars, and it was AMAZING!!)
We went late August, so unfortunately the lake was pretty fished out for bank fishing/fishing at the dam, but if you have a boat, they were still catching fish out in deeper waters.
Overall we had an great time!!

The campground is awesome, and site #17 was pretty good. The weather did not cooperate on this trip...which is Oregon. There is a big slope from the parking pad to the table/fire pit. There is a fairly flat open area for tents, and access to a small private "beach" on the lake. Very doable to get kayaks or paddle boards down.

Don't love when the table is between the fire pit and the view... sitting around the fire looking at your stuff is not why we camp with a view of water. Motorized boats allowed on the lake so not as peaceful as some other lakeside campgrounds. Worth trying again :)
