Although we camped on weekdays, we were shocked to have the campground virtually to ourselves! Our campsite was a nice size and had great lake access. The camp host was very friendly and checked on us regularly since we were there alone. The restroom was convenient and clean.

Did not know what a walk in site meant. Would have been good if that was explained in detail when I chose the site. It was difficult arriving in the dark and figuring out we literally had to haul everything through the woods to our site. We hauled the majority the next day in the light and it wasn't too bad though. I've never experienced that in my 31 years of camping. Our campsite was beautiful though. Would be nice if more info was given on each particular site online because you don't know what you're getting. We had one tent area while other sites had two. RIDICULOUS, that there aren't any true first come spots, because everything can be reserved online and then you would have to move. Unfortunately we couldn't change spots due to this possibility and the kind camp host/ manager had no control over anything. He kept the outhouse clean and even had a scent thing in there. During the week it was nice and quiet.

The camp host was very kind and helpful, the site was very well maintained and had an excellent view of the lake.

I've been to Detroit Lake day use area many times before but had never been to the Southshore campsite. It was beautiful and our campsite was right on the water! My friends and I will definitely be making this a regular camping spot.
