Being next to the lake was a game changer. Large campground so there were a lot of people and noise, but luckily we weren't too close to any of the more rowdy groups. Detroit lake is a beautiful spot to set up your chairs and canopy for the day. The water is beautiful and I will be back next year!

We've been coming to Detroit Lake for 12 years now, and this year was one of our most frustrating yet. The camp hosts are not doing their job. They will replace toilet paper, and empty garbage's but that's about it. Even though the initial the sign on the door saying the bathrooms have been sanitized, they are not sanitizing them. In the week we were there we never saw any chemicals go in and out of the bathroom. Worse than the bathrooms are the horror show shower stalls. They haven't seen chemicals probably in 2 years. They are molded/mildewy. The bugs stuck to the walls and ceiling are out of a nightmare. The cement floors are thick with old hair and shampoo/conditioner. The hosts collect the quarters every day, but that is it. They never once cleaned the showers in the 9 days we were there. Our fire pit was so full of old ash that we couldn't use it. Had to have been years of ash. Our potable water near our site was broken, with caution tape around it. The camp hosts are nice, but they are not cut out for this job. I imagine it's not fun cleaning the bathrooms / showers, but that's what they signed up for. It was gross - REAL GROSS. If they actually cleaned the bathroom / shower the place would be much more bearable.
