Great private sites, nice wooded areas. Bathroom couldve been better, worse than some of the other sites I stayed this visit. However, would recommend this campground highly.

We are not from Colorado so the check in is different from Texas. In Texas we check in with the ranger but I guess in CO there is a camp host and no check in is needed. She was quite unhelpful as we were trying to get the lay of the camp ground. The signs for water are not clearly labeled as potable water. Bring cash or a check for firewood and do not expect much guidance from the camp host. We discovered the trail head to Difficult Trail- there are not trail maps available and we did not have cell service. The area is beautiful and the trail was great and easy access to independence pass with more trails. We had a great time, just needed to figure things out since its different from Texas and the website through recreation.gov does not provide these details either. Oh! Bring sanitizer, wipes or soap for the bathroom- there are no sinks, just a port-a-potty structure. We would recommend and would come back, Judy hoping these tips will help someone else!

Convenient campsite near Aspen, the grottos, Maroon Bells and other trails. Our site 45 was private with lots of trees and shrubs and a small creek to drown out other campers, generators, etc. Open sky to see the stars late night. The site itself was pretty small. A van or small rv would work. The tent space is right next to the fire ring though. Fortunately we brought a fire pit, so we could skip the fire. Otherwise we would have had to set up our tent in the driveway space.

Great camp ground! Our spot was in the back loop and the aspen trees were just changing, it was amazing! Quick 7 minute drive into downtown aspen! I did see photos of a lake in some reviews, we couldn't find the lake and had no service to look it up. We did the hike that is right near the campsite but didn't go all the way so maybe it was at the end of that! Enjoy!

Loved the huge aspens looming over our campsite, but noticed a dead one that needs to be cut down before it falls on someone's camper.

Excellent check-in system and convenient. Sites are private and well-kept.
