We liked staying at Russell Pond a lot - the campsites were all relatively private, with space and trees between each site. D01 is a 5-6 minute walk down to the lake, plus right around the corner from the bathroom + water pump (but not too close to be disturbed by others traveling to and from) and we liked that we were away but not far. The lake is beautiful with a few small beach areas to relax or swim from. Not too buggy, even in August!

Beautiful mountain pond/lake has clear cool water and large boulders along some of edges that you can paddle out to and and use as a sunny rest spot after swimming. Campground is nice, densely populated and was rather noisy when we were there. Best camp sites are not-reservable and must be snagged first-come first served. Reservable sites are a little farther from the pond, but still within a few minutes walk. Good location from which to access Franconia Ridge trail (about 20 minutes north).
