Great Lake side camping spots. Quiet, relaxing and easy walking trails offer a wonderful vacation!

The website made it look like these 2 sites were riverfront; however, when we arrived to the campsites neither one was riverfront sites. We were really disappointed because we had kayaks that we wanted to put in at the campsites as well as sites we wanted to be able to fish from at any given time. I will further research campsites next year if we decide to come back. Overall camp was clean but the bathrooms were nasty and our sites had not been mowed in awhile so grass was tall.

One of the prettiest campgrounds we have stayed at. The attendants are so nice and helpful. Bathrooms always clean.
One negative was only Black Bear bathrooms were open. Will be back.

Gerald Freeman Campground is a large campground with multiple loops and many river-front sites. The Black Bear loop, that has the majority of the full hookup sites, is closest to State Road 15 which has a lot of loud truck traffic and happened to be under daytime construction when we visited in late September. It’s a good thing we planned to be away sight-seeing during the day because the jack hammer noise was relentless.

The campground was well maintained, restrooms were clean but showing age. Very low to no cell service in the area so plan ahead with directions. Follow the directions in the reminder email or GPS coordinates for the campground because mapping by the name of the campground lands in the wrong location.

Be aware the check-in time for this campground is 6 pm, check out time is 5 pm so if you arrive early in the afternoon your site may still be occupied. Overall, the draw of a full hookup site was not worth the long, winding, hilly road to get there and the inconvenience of poor cell service.

I was disappointed with how bad the grounds look. There is alot of work needed inside the campground. Trees down, limbs laying on the parking pads, the pads haven't been cleaned. The bathhouse wasn't that clean. When we first got there we complained to the front office that we had no water and the answer was...no one else has complained. We found an army Corp worker the next day and asked him to check. He did. We then found out that nobody had water. I have camped there for over 20 years and the maintenance is really hurting there. This could be a mo ey maker if it was just cleaned up and looked nicer.
