Nice campsite, mostly level. Could hear Newhalem creek very well. Never heard anything from highway 20. Site had a mix of sun and shade.

This was a very clean campground and it was close to the North Cascade Visitor Center, Skagit River and within biking distance of the General Store, the dump station was a bonus!

I really enjoyed my stay at Newhalem Campground. Most of the stay was very peaceful and relaxing. Several of the nearby campsites were occupied during my time there, but it was still a quiet, relaxing experience--there's enough distance between sites that you still have privacy even with neighbors nearby, The sites are well shaded by the tree cover--maybe a little too shaded, if you're into sky-watching when the stars are out. The campground is located in a good site within the parks complex--you're within good driving distance of a lot of the sights along Highway 20, yet still close enough to the nearest town (Marblemount) that it's easy to get in there and get supplies as needed. (The town at Newhalem is nearby, but the general store there was closed during my stay--I'm not sure how often it's open, so I don't recommend relying upon it.) My only quibbles with the campground: the NoCa Visitor Center is right there, but it was closed most of my time there Mon-Thur; it was only open (partially) on Thursday, the day I was leaving. Also, there are bear boxes at the sites in Loops A and B, but there aren't any in Loop C (where I stayed). The NPS can't go around preaching to people about the importance of not letting bears get at campers' stores, and then not have secure boxes at all the campsites. That needs to be made a priority, and campers who choose a site in Loop C need to be aware going in that there aren't any bear boxes at those sites. Other than that, Newhalem is a really good place to camp, and I highly recommend it.

The park was beautiful to visit and the campground was nice. Site 113 is further from the restrooms and water than about any other in the entire campground, but we still enjoyed ourselves.

We stayed at the Newhalem campground in early August of 2019. It's a great site for escaping summer heat with well shaded sites in an old growth forest. The scars from a past fire are very apparent and a good reminder to take care with fire in the forest. The Newhalem Visitor Center is a short distance away and worth the stop. Many hiking opportunities in the area and stunning views above Diablo Lake and in Washington Pass.
