Newhalem was fantastic! Loved our campsite, the camp hosts, the rangers, and the trails. Seriously a beautiful few days. We hiked the River Loop Trail, Ross Dam Trail, Big Beaver Trail, and Thunder Creek Trail. We also explored Newhalem and Diablo Dam. A really cool and unique feature of this campsite and the North Cascades National Park Complex - within the complex, there are national recreation areas where leashed dogs are welcome to join you on the trails! Love that we got to share our hiking experiences with our doggo! Not usually possible within national parks, so a big time bonus. And a huge shoutout to Park Ranger Deborah! Minus our short hike on River Loop Trail (trailhead at our campsite), the remainder or our adventures came at her recommendations. She was genuinely excited to help us plan a couple of days worth of hiking/exploring and her recs were prefect! Thank you, Deborah!

Site 33 was nice and spacious. Although the dump station was shown as being closed it was actually open. We arrived after Labor Day and the grocery store and visitor center in town were closed. The trails around the campsite were very easy to explore.

I visited the campground for 3 days and 2 nights. It was easy to find the place, and there was a sign right by the office stating to proceed ahead to the camp site for I arrived after 5pm. My reserved site was clearly marked with my name. The site was clean and provided a bear-proof cabinet for food. A place to setup a tent was nicely leveled with sand, and the edges were delineated with 4 logs. The bathroom was clean and didn’t smell, and it was not too far from the camp site. If I may ask, a shower even if it is a cold water shower, it would have been great.

The location is just perfect and right next to the visitor center. Bathrooms were very clean but busy. There was some rain during out stay but the tent pad drained very well. Definitely check out the visitor center and ask for hiking recommendations. The people there are very helpful! Very few bugs at the campsite during our visit.

Some bugs, not too bad. It was warmer during the day than the rest of the park seemed to be.
