The campsites in this area are super condensed and its hard to find a level spot to set up a tent. In 71 there are 4 other tent sites within earshot of each other. There arent enough toilets for the amount of people camping in the area. Youll likely be waiting in line for either the male or female restrooms. Besides that, its in a great location kind with about a 30 minute drive to Hurricane hill, an hour from Hoh rain Forrest, and 45 minutes from 1-3rd beaches and Rialto beach.

We were in loop A, site 9. It was a very nice location- we could hear the river, we didn’t have neighbors too close to us, we were close enough to the bathroom where we felt comfortable letting our kids go w/o us, and the site was very well maintained. Loop A seems to be more lush with vegetation than loop B. The trails around the campsite are very accessible and maintained really well. Rangers had an active presence on site, too. Campground is super close to main road for easy access (not close enough to hear road traffic). Visitor Center is about 1/3 mile from this campground. Truly a very nice camping experience in a beautiful, beautiful Park.

Clean camp and restrooms. The drive thru was great. Restrooms and water were close by.

The location of the campground and the facilities offered are great — no complaints there. The problem I encountered had to do with the campground host. My wife and I were staying in site 9 in A loop on July 19th and 20th and our neighbors, just across from us, had a campfire going. The flames were clearly visible. With the burn ban in effect, this was very much a no-no. Signs posted all over the campground instructed campers to inform someone immediately if someone was seen violating these rules. So I went over the campground host. It was around 9:30 at night so I knocked on his trailer door which he quickly opened only to then berate me for bothering him at 9:30 at night. I apologized and said that the people across from us in site 10 had a fire going. He snapped that he'd send "an officer" to deal with it the following day. Whether he ever actually reported it or not, the same neighbors had a campfire going the following night as well. I guess at Newhalem, burn bans don't seem to count for much.

Camp host was able to give us general information and where efficient. Not very personable. Sites where clean and plenty of trails to explore. It was nice being close to the North Cascade National Park information center. The volunteers there were very friendly and full of park knowledge.

Great campground. Bug were a small issue, but bring bug spray.
