Stunning natural beauty. Several trails accessible directly from the campgrounds. Rangers give educational talks in the amphitheater. Fluctuating water levels made it a bit challenging to get watercraft into the reservoir. And a bit overcrowded. But overall, we loved the visit and would come again.

Staffs were frendly and accommodating when we requested to change our campsite. Staffs are communicative and on top of things.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Site 136 was somewhat private. It was a little challenging to back our small T@B teardrop trailer into the space, but we managed. The picnic table and fire pit were down a steep incline. Not really a problem but would have been nice to know in the description somewhere. We loved Thunder Creek Trail and Thunder Knob Trail - both great hikes that we enjoyed with our dog. Restrooms were average - relatively clean. We would definitely recommend this campground.

Beautiful location. Excellent hiking and scenery. Nice campground. I’d give it a 5 for all that, but we had a surprising and somewhat disturbing interaction with staff. There were huge fires raging on the other side of the pass and there was a well posted fire ban in the campground. Two of our neighbors had fires one night. There was no one around at 7:00 to deal with the situation and no way to call anyone. When we notified the rangers the next morning, we were unimpressed with their response. They suggested it was our responsibility to “be a hero” and ask them to put the fires out. They never went to talk to those neighbors. When someone came around to warn us about a bear, we asked if she would talk to them. She said it was the responsibility of law enforcement, not her. Law enforcement people drove by in a pick up truck and didn’t even stop to talk to those neighbors. We didn’t feel like they cared about doing their job. Nor did we feel safe in the event of one of those fires getting out of control, which would be at night, when no one was there to deal with it.
