We love the Union Creek Campground. Coming from Boise, it's an easy drive on Interstate 84 and then 30 minutes on Oregon Highway 7 from Baker City. Elapsed time two hours and 16 minutes, about the same time it takes to get to Ponderosa State Park in McCall, Idaho, from Boise. But the drive to Union Creek is much easier and less tiring than the winding river drive to McCall.

The campsites at Union Creek are large and there's plenty of room between sites. The A Loop features full hookups, electric, water and sewer. The B ad C loops have water and electric.

On the banks of Phillps Lake, Union Creek offers plenty of recreational opportunities and has a boat launch. There are bike and hiking trails that circle the lake and there's an off-leash play area for dogs, marked with a sign.

Union Creek has the most trash cans of any campground I've been to. Every few sites a residential-sized can is located along the loop roads. Larger ones are placed at the boat launch parking lot and day use areas. Restrooms are also near most campsites, several per loop.

The campground doesn't allow ATVs or UTVs, so Union Creek remains very quiet.

The historic mining camp of Sumpter is just 10 miles away. Mining equipment can be viewed and the Sumpter Valley Railroad offers 5-mile excursions with steam engines between Sumpter and McEwen.

We love coming to Union Creek Campground. From Boise, it's 40 miles farther than going to Ponderosa State Park in McCall, Idaho, a campground we also love, but driving on the freeway, the driving time is about the same. It's a plus that we also gain an hour due to the time change on the way over, making it seem like we're arriving earlier than we are.The campsites are very spacious and there's plenty of room between sites. We like the electrical and water hookups; this time we stayed in the A Loop, so we also had a sewer hookup. Our dogs have a Burley trailer and they enjoy tagging along on bike treks along the shoreline and through the campground.The camp hosts in Loop A and in Loop B, where we stayed earlier in the summer were vey kind and we enjoyed talking with them. Our experiences couldn't be any better.

It is a beautiful area. Wonderful sites. It is not our first time there and it will not be our last. The camp host Dan keeps it so nice and clean. He was such a joy to talk to. Great experience.

Been to Union Creek a few times. Always clean. Friendly camp hosts. Nice having water and power and not hear generators running. One of our go to places to camp

Nice campground and well maintained. We had neighbors that had dogs that were allowed to roam free, they were luckily well behaved. Also observed on camper dumping his gray water tank into the brush, which is illegal. Price was a little steep ($35/night) for a FS campground but understand the cost of managing this campground with electricity and water hookups isn't cheap. We did extend our stay but went across the lake to Millers Lane which was only $12/night and was quiet with only a couple of other campers.

Beautiful campground with awesome hosts. They ride around with ice and firewood if needed. There are trashcans in between most sites. Our site was large, very clean, with an excellent view. The lake is down, but still visible from the campsite. The hiking trail around the lake is well-kept and provides a pleasant hiking experience. We will be back!

Very family friendly setting. Sites are not crammed in next to each other. Perfect location for star gazing with very little light from nearby Baker City. Grandkids loved fishing from the banks of the lake and riding their bicycles.

Better enforcement of keeping dogs leashed would be appreciated. Our neighbors' dogs (4) were consistently loose and coming to our site.Otherwise, our stay was very, very pleasant. Clean bathrooms and sites.

Parts of this campground are very quiet. Most of the sites are far apart. The ponderosa pines are beautiful! We didn't like the boat launching area because of all the loud jet boats and barking dogs.

A very nice campground with partial or full hookups, an easy drive up from Baker City. We stayed two nights on our way from Boise to the Washington coast. Very clean and well maintained by the campground hosts. Also exceptionally quiet due to the prohibition of ATV/UTV driving within the campground. The lake has no swimming beach and seemed lightly used by fishermen, kayaks, and stand up paddle boards. There is a nice hiking/mtn bike trail that circumnavigates the lake/reservoir. Only issue is the campground is infested with brazen chipmunks! Many campers had the hoods to their vehicles open to prevent them from taking up residence in the engine compartment and doing damage. There appears to be no natural predators which is surprising as one would think fox, coyote, etc would help to keep them in control. But it's ranch country and I suspect those natural predators are under pressure from them. Despite that I'd likely stay there again when traveling in that direction but not likely as a destination.

Union Creek Campground is a lovely spot on a very large lake. The sites are well spaced in a beautiful Ponderosa Pine forest. It is clean, well maintained and has easy access.

Fishing was ok, but you had to work for them. Campsite tables need alot of work as they are falling apart.Camp Hosts Red & Dale were fantastic!It is a little more rustic (NOT A KOA) spacing between sites are awesome and the sites are more camping then glamping!My kinda spot:-)Brad

This was the second time we reserved a Group campsite, and it was as amazing as the first. Perfect place for group get-togethers. The grounds and restrooms were well maintained and the site hosts friendly and helpful. We will definitely be going back.

@ChazInSoCal - CA

I just used PerfectCamp.com to book six consecutive August nights at the most popular campsite in one of the most popular campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park in California. That is not anything I could have accomplished anywhere else with the ease I did here! Thank you, PerfectCamp! I LOVE this site! You will find me on several other camping sites but the design, format, functionality, and personality of this the best. It’s fresh and clean.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
