We had reserved the campsite for 2 days and the following day we left for Mt.Timpanogos. As we completed the hike, we arrived at around 9PM. We decided to celebrate the completion of our summit so we went out to eat. When we arrived back at around 10:30PM, we noticed that the gate was closed. When I went out to go check the main gate some crazy lady started screaming out of an RV (I later found out that she was the manager). I had no idea that she was the manager because when we first entered the property, WE SAW AN OLDER LADY CHAIN-SMOKING IN FRONT OF THE ENTRANCE, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS ILLEGAL TO DO WITHIN 25 FEET OF A CAMPGROUND ENTRANCE IN THE STATE OF UTAH. I assumed that this lady would’ve followed the rules but I guess not. So this lady starts screaming out of her RV and I go on to ask her if she knew if someone would be able to let us in the gate. She told me that it was past 10PM. I apologized for being late, however, no one told me of a gate curfew. She then flipped out and told me that she was going to call the sheriff. I was surprised because before her outburst, I calmly told her that I had no idea that there was a gate curfew as no one made me aware of this. The best part is that when I finally told her that we just simply wanted to gather our belongings and that we would be fast and leave, she went on to tell us that she “WAS ALREADY IN HER TRAILER AND THAT SHE DIDN’T WANT TO PUT HER CLOTHES ON TO OPEN THE GATE”.
Regardless of whether this is a policy or not, Mt. Timpanogos campground needs to work on hiring management that will notify campers of the rules. Small signs posted with a million other signs just won’t cut it.
