Love the peace and quiet, the beautiful views and the wildlife at Cottonwood. Site 23 has wonderful views and we thoroughly enjoyed our view. Campground hosts Julie and Rory were wonderful! Cant wait to come back!!

We loved site #023, North Loop! It had a spectacular view; we watched wild horses across the river. It was also super quiet and private. There was plenty of room for our 48' total length (26' TT, 22' Truck). Even though our door faced the road, trees, and vegetation blocked us from it. There is potable water at the campground's entrance. We would choose this site again!!

Loved camping at site 23! The site had beautiful views and we got to see buffalo both days walking along the river. Plan on booking this site again next summer!

Our site was perfect. We were afraid having the door face the road would be a problem, but site 23 has plenty of foliage between door and road so it was not a problem. Also there seems to be plenty of separation between sites. Note: Try to park as close to table as you can or you cannot extend your awning. We set up our canopy on the non-door side and had an excellent view of the hills and on one afternoon, the wild horses. It rained the first day we were there so we could sit under canopy and still enjoy view. A friendly Camp Host came through soon after we arrived. It appeared that the park was building two additional bathrooms and it is possible that those two had been torn to build new bathrooms as there was only one bathroom for the entire campground. This was not a problem for us as we were camping in a trailer with a bathroom.

Excellent campsite! The view from camp was incredible. We saw the wild horses every day and they even walked through camp one day. I do wish they had a shower in the bath house and a dump station on-site, but we made it work.

Beautiful, natural and close to the charming town of Medora. Would highly recommend.

Cottonwood campground is a great place to see bison, and wild horses. My stay was early in the season so the water wasn't turned on yet. The vault toilets were clean. The campground is 5 miles from the entrance and the town of Medora. There are restaurants and a general store in town where you can purchase gas. If you are visiting in early May the leaves on the trees may not be out so there is no shade. The sites are well-spaced and several are pull-thru for larger campers. The south loop is more for tent camping. The sites at the far end of the north loop are a walk from the bathroom. The vault toilet is closer to the check-in kiosk and site 5. Site 23 has a wonderful view across the Little Missouri river and bluffs. Bison frequent the area and meander through the campground often lounging in the sites and rubbing on the picnic tables and BBQ's.

Except for a couple low hanging tree branches, everything was perfect. Site that we chose was roomy and the view was awesome. The scenic drive was great. Town of Medora is a fun little town.

Great location. The view from site 23 was amazing. Had no issues getting a 35 foot travel trailer on our site or through the park.

Would love to see them add some showers but the bathroom facilities were great and the location is amazing! Be ready for Buffalo walking through your camp (alittle nerve wrecking in a tent) but awesome none the less! Definitely recommend

What an experience! We camped here September 24-26 & it was amazing! We had bison walking by our campsite, heard elk bugling in the morning, and had a beautiful sunrise/sunset view from our spot overlooking the river and badlands. We hiked a 12 mile loop from our campsite jumping on the Maah Daah Hey after crossing the river. On the hike we saw a huge herd of bison as well as some loners and a couple smaller groups of 2-3 in addition to pronghorns and prairie dogs. We also traveled up to the North Unit for a drive through and cant wait to spend more time there on our next visit!!

Love this campground. Bison wandering though, coyotes howling at night, what gets better than that?

This is the best campsite! I had an amazing view and it was so pretty watching the sunset right over the mountains. I will say that this campsite is kind of windy, but I was prepared and it ended up being an amazing time! I cannot wait to go back!

Stayed 4 nights in September, site 23. Beautiful drive to campground from visitor center. Staff was friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed seeing the buffalo in and around the park. Also a good place to ride bikes through campground. Our site provided the perfect amount of privacy and a great view. Would love to visit again!

This campground is in a beautiful park, and is in a nice location near the river. The sites are generally large and fairly private. However, the sites have that overgrown, un-maintained look to them, and the fire grills are the raised type, so having a "bonfire" is a little difficult. We ended up leaving a day early after being woken in the middle of the night by what felt like gale-force winds ripping our tent pegs out of the ground, collapsing our tent, and snapping our tent pole. We were literally holding up the tent from the inside. In the morning the area around the picnic table and fire grill was a lake. Maybe it was just a bad night, but I suspect the wind storms are fairly common along the river. Probably a better campground for RV camping!
