We loved the campground and the sites were spacious and shaded. The Bison were roaming around in our campground so beware of that. The bathroom was very clean. We were disappointed the whole driving loop was not open due to construction but we did see some animals other than bison such as wild turkeys, prong horn antelope, deer and praire dogs. The campground was very quiet at night since it sits far back into the park. I would definitely go again.

Our camping experience at Cottonwood Campground exceeded our expectations. The campground was very peaceful, easy access to the river and there were interesting ranger talks the 2 nights we were there. We saw plenty of wildlife close to the campground. The hike to the petrified forest was outstanding not only for views of wildlife and rock formations, but the petrified forest was very impressive. We would definitely go back.

Perfect site. Just fit. Bison fed in front of us in evening!

Fairly large sites. No busy after season. Quiet but little wildlife seen.

My stay at Cottonwood Campground was great. The campground is quiet, clean and in a beautiful setting along the Little Missouri River. The camp host was so nice and friendly, even had treats for the dogs. It did get cold at night (in the 40s) and my dog and I were tent camping. It also got very hot during the day (late September). We did the scenic ride, very nice. Also did hiking but since I was with my dog we hiked outside of the park on the Maah Daah Hey Trail. It was very nice hiking. We hiked in the morning to avoid the heat.

Loved being pretty much by ourselves surrounded by nature’s beauty. Attended a geology ranger talk and the predator talk at the campground. Both were excellent. We will definitely return!

Campsite was private enough with water close by and the bathroom not too far away.

Same as 30 years ago. Except the bison herd spent a few night in the campground itself. Up close and personal.
