Cottonwood is a great campground. We spent two nights in early September. Weather was 99 degrees during the day and then cooled down to the 60s at night. Location is convenient for exploring the south unit.

Adding the Flush toilets and running water sinks made my stay fantastic! The Rangers were great and very helpful.

We spent four nights at Cottonwood after Labor Day. It was very peaceful and so quiet, even though the campground was near capacity every night. We loved our stay and our back-in site was #45 and very private and spacious. Highly recommend!

The sites were okay, but the lack of facilities was disappointing. No showers or laundry. If it is hot you have no water to swim in to cool off. A lot of the trails were closed due to high water (ironic, I know) so going on a hike ended up with a lot of dead-ends. The line to get into the park was extremely difficult at times.

Never had a bison as a camper next door. What a great experience.

This campsite has an amazing view. I would definitely stay here again.
It's the luck of the draw whom you have for neighbors. I had loud talkers and unwelcome light spilling into my campsite. Clearly, those people have no care about the campers around them. Its not the public library, but it's also not the gym.
$30 for my vehicle for a one night stop? Luckily I was there on a free vehicle admission day. I liked enough of what I saw and read about, that targeting this campground for a longer stay is in consideration, thus, no issue with the vehicle fee. Maybe I get better neighbors next time.
I love the location of the campground. It is near the river in a nice grove of trees, the badlands are easily visible, and the bison herd roaming through is priceless.

Good accommodations for tents. Some of the sites have shade and are very nice, but even those without shade are nice. Beautiful scenery in the area. It was a short walk to water. We did see a very large (unidentified) snake, which we thought was cool, but some folks might not appreciate.

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
